About the project
The artwork we are designing for PK will be created by a group of his artistic and architectural collaborators and colleagues. FLUX, the non-profit arts organization that PK helped found, will be the sponsor of the project and will be the steward of the funds raised through this campaign. As FLUX is a 501c3, all donations to this fund are tax-deductible.
We will be working on identifying a possible installation locations in the city of San Francisco over the next few months. As we narrow down our options for a location, we will begin to flesh out the design of the artwork. It is our hope that it can be -- like everything that FLUX has created -- a collaborative process in its design, fabrication, and installation.
The aim of the work will be to inspire awe and instigate connections between those who visit the work. This may take the form of a bench that allows people to sit together and take in a sweeping view; a sculpture that encourages both contemplation and conversation in a beautiful space; or a structure that provides gathering space and shade with whimsical and thoughtful details that echo its surroundings.
It's important to us that the artwork is installed in an outdoor space that is publicly accessible. PK's work often sought to evoke the natural world -- he looked to the landscape to find inspiration for and connection to the buildings and sculptures he helped design. It's our hope that what we create in his memory can be situated somewhere that allows people to take in the beauty of our city's landscape, something he truly loved.
What we need
We are looking for support in the following ways for this project:
- Financial support to fund the design, fabrication, and installation of the artwork (all donations are tax-deductible)
- Connection to people at the San Francisco Arts Commission, the San Francisco Parks & Rec Department, and the Presidio Trust to discuss possibilities for installation
What you receive
As part of this memorial artwork, we will be making a memento connected to the work for all our supporters. This object will be something small that you can keep with you as a memory PK and the joy and passion he brought to the world as a designer, artist, architect, instigator, and maker.
Anyone who makes a donation of $50 or more will receive the memento.
