RAHEEM - A CONCEPT IN SUMMARY
Raheem is a 20 minute short graduation film that we plan to use as a proof of concept to take to production companies and investors to develop into a feature length film. An exploration into the early days of rave culture and how it changed youth subcultures forever.
Summer 1989. Rave culture has just begun. Black British Raheem is sexually confused as of late. He's been selling pills at illegal raves with his pal Koop, taking too much MDMA and secretly getting with guys in the process. To make matters worse Koop is a reformed skinhead and will probably kick Raheem's head in if he finds out. The aforementioned Koop has been seeing 16, fresh out of school, Allie for the last few months on a sexual basis. Allie wants nothing more than for Koop to tell her that he loves her... Unfortunately thats too much commitment for our Koop. Welcome to the party.
This is a story I have wanted to tell for a while now. It occurred to me there wasn’t exactly a library of narrative films on the rise of rave culture and for such a unique time it hadn’t really been emulated much onscreen. Raheem deals heavily with Racial abuse, homophobic abuse and drug culture something a lot of ravers and teens of all types, black or white were heavily surrounded in at the time. I want to tell something as true to life as possible.

WHY NOW?
There has never been a better time for a film about rave culture and finding your place within the world. With the resurgence of the rave scene in the past few years we believe its important to go back to where it all began. It seems British cinema has overlooked the 89' rave scene and therefore leaving a huge gap in the market for films about British rave culture, we plan to cover that gap and eventually take our place alongside important rave cinema films (Human Traffic, This is England 90').
WHAT WE NEED
What we really need is some financial support and for you to share our crowdfunding page, social media pages and get the good word out about Raheem.
We are looking to achieve a crowdfunding budget of £5000. We have already raised money and had contributions on equipment, time and effort from crew and volunteers to make this project happen but we are needing this last little bit to get over the line.
Crowdfunding budget will be split in to several different sections
1 - Casting - we need a really great cast to convey this story as well as a good sized group of extras to replicate the feeling of these raves
2- Locations - Getting permits to film at the right locations is imperative to the authenticity of the project
3- Art Department - To create an authentically representative film of the era we need to ensure we dedicate a good portion of our funding to cover our Art Directors hunt for the right props and materials to rebuild this world for our story.
4 - Costumes - Another vital element to creating an authentic piece. Sourcing the right clothes to make the audience feel absorbed in to that era.
5 - Transportation -Arranging for transportation to and from each location for cast and equipment may not be an obvious spend but it quickly adds up when you consider the amount of gear and people we need to move around on a quick time scale.
6- Music & Stock Footage - We have reached out to a lot of people about the use of authentic music and stock footage to incorporate in to our project. We hope to acquire as much as possible on the basis that people are as passionate about our project as we and you are but have allowed a budget to cover the production.
7 - Contingency - Any production budget that doesn't allow for contingency is not a real production budget. Things can and will go wrong on shoots and allowing to have a moderate contingency budget ensures we deliver a product that we both want to deliver and is expected of us.
RISKS AND CHALLENGES
Every film production has risks and challenges ......anyone who says they don't hasn't made a film! But we have assembled a great team of people dedicated to making Raheem a successful project. We have allowed contingency in budget and shooting days to make sure we get coverage. And made our best efforts to contract in as much of the production as possible to ensure we are not let down on the day.
OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP
We completely understand if you cannot help us financially. We understand not everyone is in a position to be able to donate. But you can still be a massive help by other means!
Sharing is caring! Help us spread the word of Raheem, word of mouth, social media or even shout it from the rooftops! Every little bit helps and helping getting the word out to as many people as possible will help ensure we find an audience and enough backers for Raheem
If you have any music or stock footage from the era be it film or photographs or know someone who use to DJ at some of these raves and would be willing to offer up some of the music we would love to be put in touch with them. You can get in touch with at raheemfilm@gmail.com
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND ............WELCOME TO THE PARTY !!!!!
