We are American Whirlwind Pictures, LLC. We’re an upstart production company based in Maine, currently in pre-production on our first feature film, “Ramblin’ Round.” The film is based on the award-winning short of the same name. We currently have over 250,000 dollars of gifts-in-kind: film stock discounts from Kodak, a camera package from Panavision, a grant from the Maine Arts Commission, post production facilities at Company 3, and more. We already have a letter of interest from Shadow Distributors, an independent film distribution company.
Although independent film, like so many other industries, is suffering right now, we believe that great things are borne of adversity. Despite the cries that quality is dead, that all people want to see is sequels and reboots, we believe there is still an audience for interesting, engaging character-based stories. “Ramblin’ Round” is a meandering tour of Americana through the eyes of Harvey and Edie, two young urbanites, as they take off on a noble but misguided road trip through the country’s rural landscapes in search of the idealized version of life so commonly described in films and music. What they find is rarely what they expect. Richly detailed but never saccarine, “Ramblin’ Round” pays tribute to the golden ages of American cinema, and adopts their scrappy, do-it-yourself attitude, both in it’s story and the actual production. We will shoot a film this summer, the only question that remains is with what resources will we be shooting it?
Our goal if 250k. We already have 40k of private investment secured. We’re shooting on actual film in practical locations, so every little bit helps. Right now we’re looking for funds for props, a picture car, to have proper catering and other nitty-gritty. Gifts for donations will include personal thank-you’s, signed DVD’s, listings in the credits and more.
To spread the word, we’ve already set up a Wordpress blog, Facebook and Twitter pages, and have been advertising with fundraisers, upcoming newspaper articles, and copies of the short film. We hope you’ll join us in spreading the word and helping keep independent film alive.
