Revolutionary Technology for an Underserved Industry
At Revel Body, we believe sexual well-being is core to human health and happiness. We also believe in having a little fun. Introducing the Revel Body Sonic Vibrator™, a first of its kind and a game changer in the sexual wellness industry.
We focused on this industry because it is large and its products under serve the many consumers who rely on it. We decided to innovate on vibration motor technology when we observed that all of the existing battery-powered vibrators use the same vibrating motors and that these motors operate in a very small fraction of the range that people can feel. Additionally, they are the cause of many of the complaints that users have with existing products; noise, reliability, poor battery life, etc.
Competitors in this industry compete on price, packaging, branding, colors, shapes and ornamentation, but they do not compete on the primary function of these devices: vibration. Almost all companies in this industry claim to have quiet, powerful vibration, but in reality they use the same class of vibration motors and have very similar vibration performance.
Given this perspective, we focused on developing technology to provide much better sensation by expanding the range and power of vibration. We also worked to eliminate the many problems that are caused by the existing motor technology.

TrueSonic® Technology
One technology which seemed promising was resonating motor technology, the same motors that power sonic toothbrushes. They are linear resonating motors which are very efficient, can be very quiet, and are extremely reliable and simple to manufacture. But, they have a major drawback; they typically only operate at a single resonating frequency.
Having software development backgrounds, we were very focused on testing with real consumers. From our initial tests-which were wildly successful (our first three prototypes were preferred over several premium vibrators by our test group)-we observed that everyone likes different vibration (from slow and thumpy to fast and buzzy, and low power to strong) and people like to be able to adjust vibration over time. It was clear that resonating motor technology was a great alternative, but we needed a way to make the motor adjustable to run at different speeds.
After several years of research and development, we created TrueSonic technology - enabling the first adjustable linear resonating motor. There was two parts to this problem; first to figure out a way to adjust the system so that the resonant peak would shift (meaning motor would resonate at a different speed), then to develop embedded electronics and software to determine speed and to run the device at that speed. This development led to the granting of our core and fundamental patent for a continuously adjustable resonating motor, which could have applications in a variety of industries.
While everyone else uses the same motor, we have already developed three. We expect to provide a long line of sonic-powered massagers for women, men and couples. We will work with other companies, in this industry and others, to allow them to use our motor technology.
The motor in our first product consists of only a small handful of components and only a single moving part. The TrueSonic motor is simple and elegant, but the physics are complex. Sophisticated embedded electronics and software that are only recently available and affordable enable this motor to operate and be manufactured at a reasonable cost.

The Revel Body Sonic Vibrator
As we developed and tested our motor and started focusing on designing a form for our first device we had many discussions with users about existing devices and the issues associated with them, including:

Ergonomics – many consumers complain of sore elbows, wrists and hands from having to hold small and awkward shapes.

Vibration to the hand – most vibrators shake the hand as much as they shake what you are trying to vibrate. This leads to numb or sore hands.

Embarrassing Forms – we heard many stories of people being embarrassed by their vibrator as they went through TSA or when a child found a device and brought it out during a family party.

Humiliating Branding and Packaging – unfortunately many brands cling to a pornographic branding metaphor that can be degrading and humiliating to the consumers who use their products. There is enough pressure to be sexy in this world already.

Toxic Materials – there are many out there that other brands use including phthalates, nickel, lead, etc. We will never include these materials in our products. We use only inert and safe materials like body-safe silicone.

Intuitive Controls – many products are confusing to impossible to control. We focused on building simple and easy-to-use controls.
The Revel Body is inspired by a shape that most people are accustomed to holding, a tennis ball. With our form, the user’s hand is open, relaxed and comfortable. It is easy to control and modulate pressure. Pressure on fingers and joints is minimized. With existing devices you have to press hard to get sensation. With our new motor, you just hold the device and let it do the work. Even if you use the same pressure with our device, you get about 80% less vibration to your hand because of the unique way the motor operates.
The design of the Revel Body is meant to be elegant, clean and modern. We wanted a form that people could display on their nightstand. While the Revel Body was designed as a sexual vibrator, it is also a great body massager. It is equally good at sexual sensation as it is at soothing sore muscles. With the clean design, our consumers can choose to call it a sexual vibrator or a body massager.
The USB powered Revel Body is designed to work anywhere in the world. We will offer some great accessories including interchangeable tips with different shapes, textures and sensations.
