Level of detail comparison

Distinctive DK1 grid disrupts your smooth VR experince, whereas a much finer display lets you enjoy it on a completely different level.
LCD vs OLED
OLED PenTile displays of today offer full resolution only in terms of green sub pixels. Reds and blues are there only in every other pixel. That is fine for compressed content (JPEG, videos) which is already color subsampled, but not so much for rendered content which bears much more information and detail.

RiftUP! uses LCD technology, which has a separate red green and blue subpixel in each pixel to deliver the best possible picture quality.
VR content moves a lot. In terms of motion blur we experience an improvement over DK1. Smaller pixels seem to transition faster.

Are you a developer?
You can use RiftUP! in your own project! We made it simple by adding HDMI connector directly onto display board, bypassing the need of DK1 cable. We also provide a simple breakout board (in Standalone display kit) which combines HDMI+USB+Power into a single cable.
