I’m Alscott Worrell, a writer and filmmaker, writing and producing content specifically centered around black and LGBTQ+ experiences. I’ve written and self funded two short films, Everything’s Fine & Risk. Visit my website to learn more about me!
Our campaign's goal is to raise money for Risk, a 5 episode series spin-off of the short film of the same name.
Simply put, Risk follows three black 30's something queer men navigating life's complexities.
Trevor Love, a struggling screenwriter is forced to relocate and formulate a plan to pay the production company he owes, putting the film rights to his first short film at risk, all while navigating heartbreak and a temporary co-living arrangement with his unsupportive best friend in Houston, Texas.
Stories like this encourage people who feel different to stand proud and give a voice to the marginalized.
We have assembled a team of queer artist and creatives. We want to challenge the perception of black queer men in mainstream media projects and tell queer stories through our lens. Our desires, happiness, struggles, and queerness deserve a platform where others can see us actively learning, and growing.
By contributing, you’ll help tell ONE story about black queer men navigating life with nuance and depth BUT take part in the movement to create access for original content centered on worlds that value blackness and queerness.
Risk, and shows like it that center the black queer experience are valuable because it shows the film industry that quality black queer shows are in demand.
Completing this project will allow us to knock down doors that still exist within the film industry surrounding black queer characters and stories.
I have successfully filmed two short films with a micro budget and minimal crew. Having a larger budget to invite more collaboration and skilled professionals would increase the overall quality of the story, providing a well crafted show with fans who are invested. Our Budget
Our total budget is 100K. We hope to raise 40K from fundraising with the remaining 60K coming from private investors and grants. Below is a breakdown for how money will be spent with the largest percentages going to cast and crew (at minimal fees) and equipment.
