robbery, a short comedy...
colin is a lonely, awkward 20 something with all the potential and none of the prospects to have a romantic relationship. he's terrified of speaking his mind which has made companionship a far off dream. perhaps that's why when a woman attempts to rob him in the middle of the night, instead of fight or flight, colin's response is to fall in love.

a word from the director...
hi friends, kariss forte here! i'm a los angeles based actor. this isn't my first venture in writing or acting but it is my directorial debut!
my fiancé and i started RM108 films and have produced multiple award winning short films under the umbrella. no kung fu hibachi chefs, people in heaven with cell phones or data traffickers in this one. no, this is the simple story of loneliness followed by robbery, desperation, craigslist ads and the path to self discovery. or is it self destruction? eh, same thing.
remember the craiglist "missed connections" section?
i do and once, whilst scrolling through the annals of missed connections gold, i stumbled upon an ad written by a man who'd, just the night before, been robbed AND HE INVITED HIS ROBBER BACK. i had no idea what to make of a person who would do that. well, i guess I had some sort of idea.

a word about spencer glover, our executive producer...
writer, director, ramen enthusiast; in no particular order. i'm spencer glover, a filipino and african-american filmmaker based in los angeles, ca. my work focuses on the maturation of underrepresented voices in heightened universes spanning from action to drama. in 2019, i was selected to be apart of the half initiative directing program (ryan murphy tv). my current film, "data," (featuring our director, kariss forte) is an official selection in an oscar-qualifying film festival and was chosen as a finalist in stage32's short film program, newfilmmakers l.a. and new york flash film festivals to name a few. my goal is to foster an environment of collaboration, education and inspiration through my filmmaking company, rm. 108.

a word about our team...
ai kojima, our cinematographer...
hi! i'm ai (pronounced eye or i) i'd say i realized my love for cinematography as i started studying it in film school, but it was surely inevitable since i've been holding a camera for as long as i can remember. telling a story in visuals is such a challenge but then again so is making a name for oneself as a female dp (director of photography), either is worth it.

aija penix, our first assistant director...
with a resume which spans film, urban, classical and musical theatre, as well as vocal arenas, i have a well crafted appreciation for all areas of production. it is likely for me to have my hands in multiple areas of production at one time. this is one way to garner nominations and wins for both best play (producer) & best musical director for the regional broadway world awards, but more importantly this is one way to feed my desire to nurture my multiple gifts.
aleta myles, our producer...
comedian, actor, writer, producer, and more, i don’t just make you laugh, i make you take a deep breath…then laugh! along with performing stand up, acting, and producing online content, i am former host of 'the moth' (NPR nashville) with a music degree in commercial voice from belmont university, have a series 'judith speaks,' set to be released in 2021 and speak truth to change via my upcoming podcast, “miseducation of two church girls."
the ecosystem...
we're lucky to be surrounded by creatives. not only filmmakers but chefs, musicians, photographers, painters, poets, clothing designers, makers of tiny things, anything you can think, really. this project will serve as a collaborative art piece that utilizes artistry at every level. it will be an ecosystem of artists, making and selling their work within the film while increasing our visibility.
so here's how it will work;
for example, typically a film will involve a wardrobe person or team to style each character. we want to do something a little different for robbery. colin will be styled by a clothing designer with a small business. throughout the production, via social media, colin's looks will be made shoppable by promoting the work of the designer. in return the designer will be promoting his or her work featured in our film. you see? an ecosystem.
it's about utilizing every detail to build with other independent artists across mediums.
"we have a tendency to try and network up and it really is about networking across. like, who's next to you? who's struggling? who's in the trenches with you? who's just as hungry as you are? and those are the people that you need to build with." -Issa Rae
your $$'s impact...
telling a story on film requires a team with a lot of pre-organization, technical skill and physical endurance. our goal is to compensate people for what we know to be very challenging work. your donations to this campaign do exactly that, telling the story and compensating the team that makes it happen. our production will include a cast, crew and artists in underrepresented groups, work independently in smaller markets, making your support that much more vital.
we want to pay these talented people for their time and effort because the freedom and ability to tell our own stories is what propels the force of creativity surrounding and sustaining us.
what do we need to make this happen?
the goal is $5,000. it's a short. small cast and minimal crew for safety and efficiency.
so, here is what that 5k is providing...
- cast, crew, artist collaboration
- camera / lighting / sound equipment
- food and safety measures
- post production (editing and score)
- festival entry fees
- locations
- shooting in nashville, tn is a cost effective option that give us options for different looks
there's always risks and hurdles...
so let's be honest, filmmaking can be risky. but let's be honest again, we're not making a feature film, intended for theater release. we're making a short film. the expectations are for the film to make a festival run, win awards and live online as the greatest craigslist story ever told.
our biggest challenge for shooting in February of 2021 is to protect ourselves from COVID-19. luckily it is also our biggest priority. we will remain flexible in dates and limit the crew size. testing, quarantining and temperature checks everyday on set will be a must.
can't make a donation...
please know that a donation of any size is appreciated by us. there is no requirement. though we do offer a few perks for donations of a particular size, any and all of your support is welcome.
if donating to the campaign is not something you can do, cool, we get it. another way that you can help us is to simply make us visible. share, share, share. on social media, on indiegogo, talk about the project to people you know, etc.
we appreciate you.
