ROKK: Fair Music Streaming for Fans of Rock & Metal
Update with Alex Landenburg from Kamelot and Cyhra, but talking today as co-founder of ROKK!
![]()
ROKK is the first streaming service made specifically for fans of rock and metal.
And even though we are all about rock & metal, you can explore any other kind of music on ROKK as well just as you would on any other streaming service.
ROKK is coming first to Europe/UK on IOS/Android/Web early 2024 (with North and South America, Japan and Australia to follow soon after). During the course of the campaign, all backers from Europe/UK will receive early access.
(Note: Those who choose to support us from outside Europe/UK will receive a special newsletter that will keep them informed of our progress in launching in additional territories.)
ROKK: by Artists, for Artists!
![]()
At ROKK, we believe artists deserve to be compensated fairly for their music.
Our goal is that every stream will pay significantly more, up to 2-3 times more in fact. Even more exciting, ROKK allows you to directly support an artist of your choice with up to 10% of your subscription!
Bands & Artists: Get your own link before we launch at https://rokk.app/register-new-artist/
*Please note:
(Direct Artists Support)
The Direct Artist Support is not part of the royalty payments, but one of the differences that we take on our end to put more money in artists pockets. To ensure that 10% of your subscription goes the act you choose, you will need to sign up through a link provided by that particular band. However our Indiegogo backers can still choose a band during their trial month as there are no band links prior to launch.
Refer to the FAQ for information on the 10% and how the 2-3 times higher royalty payments works.
The problem with streaming for Rock and Metal?
![]()
When we say streaming is unfair we are not referring to the current streaming model itself. The biggest part of the problem stems from high usage of consumers, a low cost subscription, and inflated streams for a select group of artists that leads to low per play rates.
Your money, regardless of who you are listening to, goes into a single pool that's distributed to artists based on their streams in relation to total platform streams.
When you consider that 90% of streams go to the top 0.8% of artists (according to research by analytics company Alpha Data), you begin to understand why this mostly benefits megastars.
As a result, a significant part of your subscription can go to acts that you will never listen to, while your favourite bands can go almost empty-handed.
How is ROKK going to change that?
We, like the other existing platforms, are bound by more or less the same model, which distributes around 70% (after tax) to the rights holders. So how can we achieve a 2-3 times higher payout then?
As explained in the video above, the problem of low per-play rates stems from a combination of high consumer usage at a low subscription cost (after all, any streaming service, including ours, costs less per month than people used to pay for a single album), but most importantly, extremely inflated streams for a select group of mainstream artists.
By not catering to average users we avoid mass consumption of this "popular" music.
This will result in a more evenly distribution of money amongst artists on the ROKK platform, which can lead to a much more significant portion of your subscription, to go to the bands you actually listen to.
When you add in our 10% direct artist support (which means we actually pay out 80% instead of the usual 70%) you begin to see how we can achieve these 2-3 higher payouts for artists on ROKK.

What else does ROKK do differently?
By providing a home for rock and metal and helping artists to make a better living. This is the heart of our mission, but it doesn't stop there.

Rokkpedia
![]()
Comprised of: iconic albums, line-ups, gear, past members, and just about everything else you can imagine.
We will be constantly expanding this section and our vision is to include our community and our combined knowledge of music.
High Quality Audio
![]()
Together with our team of sound engineers, we have tested all the different options with the latest codecs. In the end, we have arrived to the conclusion that even our regular subscription's audio quality (OPUS at 160kbps) is already a true HIFI sound.
Meticulously Curated Playlists
![]()
Our official playlists are compiled by our team, trusted friends, and rockstars from all over the world. We all have our own favourite specific sub-genres and most of us have been metal and rock fans/musicians our entire lives.
We want you to get involved as well! Suggesting tracks for our official playlists is one of the perks you get for signing up early.
It's time for a change! How you can help.
Recent news threatens to make it even harder for smaller acts to earn what they rightfully deserve. Apparently there are even plans on some platforms to stop paying acts below a certain threshold of annual streams.
Enough is enough! We as music lovers must set an example and come together, to show that there are enough people who care. There is a fairer solution.
Together we can make a difference.
Become a part of the ROKK revolution by contributing to the cause or by simply sharing our campaign. Every single share and every contribution helps.

Where we are now and what are the next steps?
We are now in the process of ingesting the remaining content and making minor changes to the actual app itself.
During the course of this campaign, backers will be the first to have access to our trial month, which will lead into our official launch at the end of this campaign.
We will let all our backers know how to access the app once we have finished ingesting the current content(1-2 months).
Refund Policy
We guarantee that any backer can get a full refund during their trial month(s) if for any reason you are not happy with our service (See FAQ for more details).
Important information for backers outside the EU & UK:
ROKK will initially only launch in most of Europe and the UK (see FAQ for full list of countries).
Our goal is to launch in North America and many other territories within the first year of our service.
If you live outside of Europe you can still be a part of the movement for fair music streaming. Help us further the cause by simply sharing this campaign or by making a donation(even the smallest amount helps). This will also ensure that you are kept informed of our launch in other territories via our backer newsletter.
