Love. In the time of zombies.
Racing against time, a guy must find a way to flag down help to save his comatose wife after he encounters a hoard of flesh eating zombies.
Ultimately a story about the power of love, Room 205 portrays the lengths one would go to for their loved one(s). Why a story about love? Love is above personal desires. Love is above oneself. Love is even above life itself. I truly believe that there isn’t a thing that is more powerful than love. I wanted to tell a story with a universal theme that everyone could relate to, and hence a story about the power of love.
Room 205 is a zombie film with a lot of drama and action. I want to work on my skills in directing actors, and what better way to improve on that skill than to do a film with heavy and dramatic scenes. In addition to that, I’ve never made an action film before, and wanted to challenge myself to make a visually engaging action film. Making Room 205 will definitely be a learning experience that I’m looking forward to.
Have you ever wondered what it would be to actually be in a zombie plague? Want a more intense film experience?
One of the coolest aspects of this project is that I partnered with VISIVR to shoot this movie with VR technology. VR tech has come a long way in its development and it has allowed us to potentially make a more intense film.
You can experience the movie on your computer at home (like with our campaign video) or on a mobile device. Go ahead and watch the campaign video again and move the video with your mouse. Cool, right? Now if you watch on your phone all you have to do is move it around to see.
Will our hero manage to track down help to save his wife? Can he out maneuver creatures who want nothing more than to eat his brain? You'll be able to go on this unique journey via VR!
There are some big action set pieces in my project and I'm looking forward to creating a new and even more terrifying zombie sequences. This movie is also great for people who want to get a bit more out of their films than just a standard story. Yes, the plot and actors are great, but I want to make a film that makes you the audience feel as though you are there with the characters.
For those of you who want to support the project and get even more in depth with the world, there's an exclusive prologue + other amazing perks for $100.
In order to make this film work, there are several key areas that I am raising funds for. Because this is an intermediate thesis project, the technical and environmental aspects of the film are crucial to it's success. I have an awesome PD designer Dwayne Kemete, who has worked on several big short film productions to help design the project. We're trying to turn a regular science building into a run down hospital like so
Awesome right? That's why the largest portion of the budget is geared toward locations and production design.
Additionally, in order to get the feel of terror, we will be using Steadicam and Virtual Reality technology to craft a truly suspenseful experience. Finally, a zombie movie is nothing without awesome creature design and with Zach Valdry at the helm, the zombies are sure to be awesome. Check out some of his work below:
Here’s a streamlined breakdown of just what your contributions will go towards:
Even if you can't contribute monetarily to the campaign, you can still be a part of helping get this movie made!
If the story resonates with you or anyone you know, share this project with your friends and family via Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, etc.
Thanks for the support!
Born and raised in Malaysia, where it's Asia's very own melting pot of diversity, Zac Chia grew up listening to stories and watching films from various cultures, and fell in love with the art of storytelling, and specifically the art of storytelling in films. I worked as a camera operator at an ad agency before coming to the states to further my studies, and directed and shot advertisements freelance on the side. I was also fortunate enough to have had a comedy short of mine win the best storytelling category in a film competition back home. Since coming to the states, I have worked on over 20 student films as a writer/director, DP, or 1st AC, and have freelanced as a 1st AC for 3 short films.
