About this recording
Roots represent beginnings. They facilitate growth. They expand to support and nurture. Our diverse roots converge on this CD, bringing together the music of Hungarian, Latin American and North American composers. This recording offers a delectable variety of music from the W.F. Bach Duo Sonata that became the root of our friendship to the folk music that we heard growing up and to our more recent musical adventures in Canada and the U.S.
Our project is nearly complete but we need your support to get it off the ground. Your contribution will help us put the finishing touches on the recording, including art work, pressing, manufacturing and purchasing rights. It will fund the promotion of the CD and will also enable us to pay off some of the money we have already used towards the musicians' honorariums, travel expenses and the commission of a new piece. Any extra contributions will be used towards our other ongoing projects,
Details
Most of the music featured on this CD has never been recorded before, including Exequiel Mantega's arrangement of Piazzolla's famous Tango Etudes for two flutes, our own arrangement of the "Aria" from Villa-Lobos' Bachianas Brasileira No. 6 for flute and bass flute and the fiery "Danzas del Fuego" for two flutes, cello and marimba written for us by Greek-Canadian composer Constantine Caravassilis.
We are proud to present Running the Edge for two flutes and percussive piano by Jennifer Higdon, one of the most frequently performed American composers of our time. Last, but not least, Franz Doppler's well known "Duettino on Hungarian Motives" gives us the chance to offer our interpretation on a much loved classic for two flutes and piano.
About us
We are a flute duo based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Though born on
different continents and trained in different countries, we have forged a personal and musical connection that makes playing together as natural and effortless as
breathing and even more gratifying than playing alone. Our collaboration began in 2010 with performances in each other's graduating recitals and has since then taken us to various venues and chamber music series in the Toronto area. We are looking forward to an exciting new season with appearances in Toronto, the University of Idaho, New York and Monterrey, Mexico.
Our vision
Professional flute duos aren't very common and the existing repertoire can quickly be exhausted. This presents a wonderful opportunity for us to influence the creation of new repertoire. Our goal is to keep commissioning exciting new music from young composers. This CD will enable us to apply for grants that will help fund such future projects.
