The Ask
If you're a meat and potato kind of Owl I'll cut straight to the chase. We need you to believe in our children's book dream so that we can make magic happen.
How
Choose a perk and lean back feeling really good about making this world a little more AWESOME (that's what kid president would do...if you don't know kid president go and ask the google now). Your perk will arrive as soon as we've got it made and we'll be sure to update you along the way (don't worry...not daily, not weekly and let's face it, probably not even monthly...but we'll keep you in the loop).
The Hang Up
It's an ALL or nothing (I refuse to capitalize this word) campaign. If we don't make our goal then we get nothing. You at least get something...your coins back. No risk.
The rest of the stuff you should know
After publishing Our Canadian Love Story in 2013 and now Pom Pom A Flightless Bully Tale in Dec 2014, it's time to get even more close and personal.
In theory Sadly should be a girl because this little sad owl is autobiographic. And if we haven't met, I'm Linnie von Sky and the pleasure is all mine.
Depression appears rampant as Mental Health conversations are finally seeing the light of day. In reality Depression has always been around. It has stolen too many days and crushed too many dreamers. I agree that it's time to speak up. Depression is REAL and it SUCKS...at least it sucked the living daylight out of me and consumes too many people I love.

I've brought a new illustrator on board to illustrate this little survival tale.
Introducing the incredibly talented Ashley O'Mara. Ashley is a Vancouverite, Emily Carr Graduate, Bird Lover (she draws the cutest darn chickens I've ever seen) and like me, knows a thing or two about how much depression hurts.
Together we want to speak out...well write out and illustrate out. Call it therapy...call it our contribution. We can't wait to create a magical tale that finds a place in your child's library...or maybe in your own?
Are you wondering why Sadly doesn't look so sad here? Well you see Sadly's actually a pretty happy Sadly. That's the dilemma. It's why we know that not polishing his cowboy boots and staying away from the saloon and his line-dancing friends is so out of character.

With your contribution we can help Sadly seek professional help to make sure that this little Owl keeps hanging on for life.
The lovely Lindsay, a reporter for Vancity Buzz, recently asked me in an interview why I address the most challenging of topics in the form of children's books? I told her, like I'll tell you, that immigration, bullying and depression play on the most instinctive concepts of human emotion: loneliness, hurt, pain, sadness, togetherness, friendship, love, hope and respect, to name just a few, are all feelings that children understand very well. Never underestimate the intelligence of young humans. Their minds are magical.
The Perks
We think they are pretty self explanatory. We hope you agree?! The one we are keeping our fingers crossed for is the Name Typeset into the Endsheets perk. Just imagine...there could be more than a couple of handfuls of us who have our first names, nicknames, or family names typeset into beautifully designed endsheets. We'd make an enormous statement. It would be like holding hands and walking into the light together. Of course this is also the place where you can honour someone and thank them for supporting you through your sadness. Depression affects all of us...so all of our names deserve to be there.
Thank You
That pretty much sums this section up. Thank you so very much! Pretty please let's make this happen.
