This is Fikirtepe, İstanbul. Since 2012, more than ten thousand people have been systematically forced to leave. Now, the area is covered with construction sites and high-rise complexes. Once organic and lively small apartments will not be here very soon. Instead, glass facades and steel buildings will rise. Saf tells the transformation story of a couple living in a shanty, in the midst of a massive urban transformation. We, the team of Saf, want to document the lives of the people of Fikirtepe, that we know of, before it’s too late. Join us on this journey, together we can create a visual document that will remind the future generations of Fikirtepe’s past.
Burası Fikirtepe, İstanbul. 2012'den beri on binlerce kişi sistematik bir şekilde, yıllar içerisinde burayı terk etmek zorunda kaldı. Şu anda burada şantiyeler ve yükselen rezidans binaları var. Buranın eski, organik, yaşayan, gecekondulardan, 2-3 katlı apartmanlardan oluşan havası çok yakın zamanda burada olmayacak. Onun yerine burada cam cepheler, çelik binalar yükseliyor olacak.
SAF projesi kentsel dönüşüm ekseninde gecekonduda yaşayan bir çiftin dönüşüm hikayesini anlatıyor.
Biz de SAF ekibi olarak bu dönüşüm sonlanmadan, bizim bildiğimiz, yollarında yürüdüğümüz Fikirtepe yok olmadan buradaki yaşamları belgelemek istiyoruz.
Bu yolculukta bize katılın, hep beraber, yıllar sonra bakıldığı zaman eski Fikirtepe'yi bize hatırlatacak güzel bir işimiz beraber olsun!

STORY - HİKAYE
Kamil, a goodhearted worker, lands a job at a construction site nearby, going against his principles of opposing urban transformation. The former jobholder, a Syrian refugee, wants Kamil to leave. Oppression and anxiety both in his neighborhood and at work lead to Kamil’s transformation. His wife must face the consequences of his acts.
Kamil, naif bir işçidir. Uzun süredir işsiz olduğu için prensiplerini bir kenara bırakıp yakındaki bir şantiyede çalışmak zorunda kalır. İşi elinden aldığı Suriyeli göçmen, Kamil'den işini geri almak savaş verir. Mahalle ve işyerinde gördüğü baskılar Kamil'i derinden dönüştürecektir. Karısı Remziye, Kamil'in yaptıklarının sonuçlarıyla yüzleşmek zorunda kalacaktır.

ABOUT FIKIRTEPE - FİKİRTEPE HAKKINDA
Located in the heart of the Kadikoy district on the Asian side of the Bosphorus, Fikirtepe is one of the oldest settlements of the city. The largest Istanbul urban transformation project has begun in Fikirtepe in 2010. To date, more than %90 of its original - mostly underserved - population has been displaced. A staggering US$18 billion is being poured into the region, the biggest private-public partnership endeavours in many years, with more than 20 private construction companies working with the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, 10,269 new units are planned to be built, including 9189 apartments, 571 workplaces and 509 offices. Fikirtepe’s new population will expect to rise to 140.000. This upmarket is made possible at the expense of initial inhabitants, incapable of supporting the cost of future luxury buildings. On their side, developers made no secret of their desire to turn Fikirtepe into an Anatolian Manhattan. The future residencies’ names, “Loft” or “Brooklyn”, are symptomatic of this trend. Due to master plan revisions following the judicial processes and struggling private companies, a large amount of deserted buildings have turned into shelters for Syrian refugees, raising concerns and sparking turmoil amongst owners who have not yet succeed to conclude their negotiations.

We have been preparing for this project for more than 3 years. We have been witnessing Fikirtepe transform in a massive scale. We have sadly realized that Fikirtepe that we know of will be long gone before the financing for Saf is fully in place. Saf filmi üzerine üç yıldan fazla bir süredir çalışıyoruz. Bu süreçte Fikirtepe’nin akılalmaz dönüşümüne şahit olduk. Filmin uluslararası fonlanma süreci devam etmesine karşın, risk almayı tercih ettik ve bu kış, daha da geç olmadan çekimlere başlamaya karar verdik. Gelecek nesillere önemli bir belge bırakmak amacıyla çıktığımız bu yolculukta desteğiniz bizler için çok değerli.
