My name is “Mr. B”, Bonginhlanhla Ncube in full (unnecessary information
“I am 40 years old”). I am a father
of 2 and a husband of 1, church sound engineer then a film Producer / Director
/ Writer residing in Pretoria, South Africa. I am an award-winning (Honolulu Film Awards, USA 2012, 48 Hour Film Project 2010, Amasiko Heritage & Arts
Festival 2011) passionate filmmaker.
I am well known for the hit flick I wrote, produced and directed, "48". An award winner and 3 time nominees at the African Oscars (Africa Movie Academy Awards) for 2012.
SAFE BET is a film that has already been shot. I have included a video which has a few clips (ungraded and not mastered sound) just so you see what has already been done. The film needs to go into post-production. This campaign is about raising post-production funding only.
The movie
SAFE BET is an action comedy that follows the adventure of 2 idiotic novice robbers, FRANK ( WANDILE MOLEBATSI ) and KHAYA ( GODFREY THOBEJANE ), who decide to take their boss's money and spin it on a fixed boxing. Unknown to our 'incomplete heroes' a girl pair with agenda joins them but that's not all their short-lived adventure attracts. Even one DOC ( LUTHULI DLAMINI ) who develops interests on the boys' money. SAFE BET touches on life issues, our never ending quest for more bucks, love, family sacrifice and general stupidity.
BegTech
I don’t like asking for money (feels
strange saying that in here) so in 2013 I decided to shoot my second film,
SAFE BET. We have spent R 255, 000 (about US$ 25, 000) of our hard earned
savings in order to shoot and finish the film - and we did finish shooting. We
had an over-zealous schedule so we went over, which meant we put in every penny
kept for balance payments and post-production just so we at least finish
shooting the film. Now we are proudly broke. This film is not only special to
me but to the rest of the cast and crew who worked so hard and deserve to see
the final product.
I am hoping that bringing you on board this project can assist us complete
our film, grab some pop-corn and nervously watch as the lights go off and the curtains
adjust and BOOM!
Our target is $ 30, 000 – only!
This will help us complete the film and realise our dream, however, there is
more to be done… if this campaign goes beyond its target to $ 50, 000 we will
be able to even buy music rights and add more appealing visual effects. If it
gets to $ 80, 000, we will be able to implement 5.1 Dolby sound, do a DCP (Digital
Cinema Projection) conversion and other outputs for different film festivals across
the globe. Should we by God’s grace get to over $ 100, 000, then we will have a
crazy marketing campaign for the film and more people will know about the film,
meaning more will then get to watch it in Cinemas. As our contributor, no
matter how much you give, you would not only have helped us realise our dream,
you will be a part of it.
What We Need – the breakdown
Why do we need $ 30, 000 ( remember in South Africa we use the “Rand”
and for now $1 will roughly get us R10, hence we need about R 300, 000 ). Broken
down as follows;
Editing (Offline, Online, Trailer & final mix) $
12, 000
In the event you join us in realising our dream, we have some goodies
for you as a token of our appreciation. Most of these goodies will have
something to do with the movie; this is because you would have assisted us complete
our movie so we believe your interests and best ‘thank you’ perks should be
centered around the movie. Please note that the poster images are all draft and
might change in future. Some of the perks have quantity limits. The delivery
periods indicated are under the assumption that we raise the entire budget, if
we do not reach the targets then these may not be fulfilled as indicated,
however, (you might agree it makes sense to channel everything towards the
movie) we will keep our proud sponsors updated.

Finally, what happens if we don’t reach our entire goal? Well, we will
most definitely do something from offline editing to printing posters but we
will for sure put any funds received to use and we will finish the movie using
other funding techniques or simply save up and do it ourselves. This might take
a little longer to complete the film so you are still a very important part of
this journey.
The Impact
SAFE BET is like any comedy film meant to get people laughing while
addressing one of life’s key elements, money and our quest for getting more of
it. You may agree that this world needs to laugh & love more. Everybody
needs to see this.
After making my first feature hit flick film called “48”, I realised I
had a sense of humour, I remember the entire crew and cast breaking down on
several occasions with laughter on set. The successes of 48 have given us all
courage to make SAFE BET with further guarantees of success as we’ve learnt
quiet a lot since 2011.
