The Inventors
Matthew Schafer and Kody Herchler both grew up on the west side of Cleveland, Ohio. Matthew is currently a sophomore in college at the University of Cincinnati studying Finance and Management. Kody recently graduated from the University of Cincinnati in Spring of 2014 with a Bachelor's Degree of Business Administration, specializing in Finance.
The two aspiring entrepreneurs are actively seeking ways to help those around them. When Matthew came up with an idea to help prevent the immense issue of texting and driving, knowing distracted driving has become the leading cause of teen driver-related deaths, the two knew they had to pursue the idea.
The Idea
Their idea is to develop a mobile phone application they call "SafeDrive." The application automatically blocks predetermined notifications from the user's phone once the user exceeds 10 MPH, a program they call "SafeDrive Mode." There are two versions to the application; the Individual version and the Teen/Family version. The Individual version allows individuals to choose which settings will be blocked from their phone while in SafeDrive Mode. The Teen/Family version allows parents to choose the notifications that will be blocked from their teens' phones while the teen is in SafeDrive Mode.

The Funds
Matthew and Kody are seeking funds to help them further their application's development. Thus far, they have had all of the pages of the application designed and developed, the blueprints for the functionality of the application created, as well as a website promoting the application. The two have also applied and received a provisional patent for their product. Lastly, they have purchased hundreds of keychains and T-shirts to help market the product. The two are seeking funds to help finance the final stage of the development for the application - the coding and programming of SafeDrive. This will launch the application to be onto the Android and iOS platforms. Contributors will help the two launch this life-saving application to help prevent distracted driving, the number one cause of teen-driving related deaths. By alleviating the temptation for driver's to use their phone while behind the wheel, SafeDrive will allow for a sound peace of mind while on the road.
The Uses
The $17,500 will drastically help the two with the final stage of application development, the launching process for SafeDrive, as the cost to code and program the application for the Android market will exceed $13,000. They will use the remainder of the generous contributions to help further their marketing strategies for the application, launch into the iOS market, finalizing the patent, and lastly, creating an LLC. If the entire goal is not reached, the funds will still contribute to these aspects of the launching process of SafeDrive.
The Inventors' History
Kody has previously worked in the development of an application through an intern position he held while in college. Both he and Matthew have the knowledge necessary to allow this application to succeed acquired from their college coursework, as well as from the help of their mentors. Although the two may encounter problems in the app market as they struggle to compete with other safe driving applications, they feel their specialized product will prevail as it differs from the rest with its automatic starting and user-friendly aspects. They are prepared to battle any challenges they may encounter.
Thank You!
They greatly appreciate any generous contributions that may be made to help their launching of their safe driving application! They hope that this application can help drivers across the world be safer and more focused on the road, as it alleviates the temptation to use one's phone while driving.
