Our paper has been told by Leeds University Union that they will no longer fund LS this year due to am internal failure to bring in enough advertising, falling short by £5,200. We have approached the Union with several fundraising options including: internal advertising, external advertising (bars outside the Union and even a large chain supermarket), and a special 75th anniversary of LUU pullout. All of these have been rejected.

Secondly, both candidates for the position of LS editor have been pushed out of the Leadership Race. They were not included in the Union’s advertising, students had to click a separate button to vote for Editor and they were excluded from the candidates’ briefing.

All this was done with no consultation. We are concerned that this is a deliberate attempt to limit the scope of the paper and to silence students.

We are sure all of you are aware of the importance of an independent student press, holding both LUU and the University to account.

We would be grateful if you could support our cause in whatever way you can.

For more information, here is a news story concerning the situation - http://www.leedsstudent.org/2014/03/21/news-funding-crisis-puts-an-end-to-ls-printing/
There will be further updates as the situation develops on the Leeds Student website.

We have also had a petition set up on our behalf, we would be very grateful if you could sign and share -http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/leeds-university-union-reverse-the-decision-to-cut-funding-to-the-leeds-student-newspaper
