"So what the heck is this?"
Hey, I'm Heath Gleason. I'm a 20 year old filmmaker with a vision. A vision for the most profound, emotional lightsaber fight ever put on screen.
Ever since I was 9 I have been burning to make the best lightsaber fight I possibly can. Over the years, I have done several smaller scaled battles to test the waters, and I can absolutely tell you that we know what we are doing now, and can't wait to share that in the form of this short film, School of War.
Since these productions can be fairly local and intimately sized, you may be asking what I actually need money for. We have dedicated the film toward the representation of an actual martial arts philosophy school, and the creator of that school, Daniel Alan, will be teaching us the fundamentals of several arts to achieve a fight with a true background. We want every cut, every movement to feel incredibly precise, and true to form. This will not just be another random fight where the flourishes are without function or taste. We are not interesting in creating just an aesthetically pleasing fight, we want to create one that - while brief, is thought provoking and powerful.
So here's the deal.
Daniel is a hermit. The dude chooses to live in his car. That being said, through all of his martial background, he has not learned the art of teleportation and as a result is currently residing in Kansas, 1000 miles off the mark of us.
In order to make this everything it can possibly be, we need your help to get Daniel over here. After a long talk, we have discovered the model that we are looking at financially to make this happen.
- $130-200 for ONE trip to our location in his truck, it is an 18 hour drive, so he will probably need to take several stops for food, and water, He gets about 19 miles to the gallon on the highway, so through our calculations he should be able to make it on a one-way trip with this amount. The problem is not putting him in an uncompromising position, and having him stuck here. No one wants that to happen to him.
- Housing will cost about $50, but every little bit for food and water is extremely important. $10 could mean a meal for him.
There's always risks!
For the sake of urgency, we are on a crunch. Our DP is getting married on the 11th of November, so that leaves less time to get this shot. We also need time to choreograph, so although we are shooting on the 8th, choreography will take place with Daniel from the 5-7th of November. We will be on a huge crunch during that period, and low on funds. If we do not get funded even 50%, things will be extremely hard on us during this shoot. Although we are all qualified filmmakers, our DP being the director of Marvel Knights: Spider-Man and I being apart of both that and several other productions both professional and independent, we cannot make fire out of air and absolutely require support from you in any capacity.
PLEASE share this campaign, and do not be afraid to tell everyone you know about this. BUG THEM! Thank you.
