Last May, SCI-FEST LA debuted, bringing 2 rotating evenings of scary, hilarious and mind-bending short plays to Los Angeles starring an incredible cast of actors famous for their work on such iconic TV franchises as STAR TREK, THE X-FILES, LOST, STARGATE: UNIVERSE, HEROES, TRUE BLOOD and FRINGE. The Fest was such a success (with packed houses & great press) that it's brought a whole new set of even more challenging and amazing scripts our way including knock-out adaptations of Neil Gaiman's "The Case of Four and Twenty Blackbirds" and Clive Barker's acclaimed short story, "The Departed," (sent to us by Mr. Barker himself). We're tremendously excited about bringing all these new stories of time travel, ghostly obsessions and intergalactic journeys to life, but to do them justice, we will need to substantially increase our production budget.
Last year, we raised an impressive $81,000.00 on Kickstarter and produced a groundbreaking month-long Festival. Luckily, our major donors believe (as we do) that this opportunity to take Sci-Fest LA to the next level is too amazing to pass up. These incredible people have made us a very generous offer. If we can raise $100,000.00 via this IndieGoGo campaign, our major donors will contribute an additional 30% MATCHING GRANT! This would be a real game changer for us.
Sci-Fest LA is on an utterly unique path. Unlike the "cons" or fan gatherings, Sci-Fest LA is passionately dedicated to the creation of NEW Sci-Fi content. This year, in addition to our stage shows, we have initiated two new Sci-Fi short fiction contests: THE ROSWELL AWARD (for adult Sci-Fi writers from around the globe) and THE TOMORROW PRIZE (for LA County High School Students). All funds raised at the presentation ceremony for the Tomorrow Prize will be awarded to the winner's high school science department. Info: www.Sci-FestLA.com

What We Need & What We Can Offer
Last year, we floated astronauts in space and figured out how to make an live actor's face grow out of an elastic wall. Almost all the shows we're doing in 2015 will need some kind of specially designed props, lighting, sound effects or prosthetic make up. All these cool effects require a lot of our designers' time and effort. This also means paying for more rehearsal time in the theater to perfect those effects before our first audience arrives. Like last year, the majority of Sci-Fest's budget will be spent on theater rental and the cost of physically producing the plays with only a small portion devoted to modest salaries for key design and production people.

Why Sci-Fest LA Matters to You
Our mission is simple: To create new work that inspires artists and audiences alike to consider our collective future. Our hope is to continue to grow the Festival, eventually moving into a larger venue and becoming a "destination event" attracting Sci-Fi fans from around the globe to Los Angeles. Above all, Sci-Fest LA is fun! Last year, we produced a dynamite Festival that the world-famous Hollywood Reporter called "An inspired notion," concluding that "After seeing the
First Annual Sci-Fest, rest assured you’ll be hoping for a Second Annual
Sci-Fest, and more after that.” Our audiences were moved and amazed by last year's Festival and we want to deliver them even more surprises in 2015. We believe in the possibility of Sci-Fest LA to inspire innovative and purposeful thought in every person who participates, volunteers or attends. Please help us insure the future of this awesome annual event by allowing us to hit (or even exceed) our goal of $100,000.00 in 50 days!
Challenges
Producing Science Fiction live on stage requires (a) great material and (b) creative thinking. We are blessed to have an incredibly skilled team of Los Angeles-based producers, directors and designers -- All of whom are currently professionally employed in the TV, Film and Theater industries. Between all of us, there aren't many problems we can't solve. This team is backed up 100% by an tireless crew of volunteers and fans who consistently make sure the Festival gets the loving support it needs to succeed. Challenges are inevitable, but the equation for success is always the same: passion + team work.

Other Ways You Can Help
If you're unable to give financially, there are other ways you can help. One way is to be our "voice" in your community by talking about the Festival and re-posting anything you see about us on Facebook or Twitter. Taking the time to personally endorse us to your friends can mean a lot! Sci-Fest LA also needs volunteers to staff events, hand out flyers and do promotional work. The Festival can always make use of donated prizes to offer to our many contributors as rewards for their generosity. Contact us at Info@Sci-Fest.com. And don't forget that IndieGoGo also has some great "Share" tools. Please use them.
