A year ago I bought my first SEADOO Spark, with the idea of exploring the waterways that Canada and the Great Lakes have to offer. The only problem I now faced was: Cargo Space. Yes, I could have bought a boat but I don't have the space to store it.
So this got me thinking... is there an accessory I could get that would take my beach chair, camping equipment, cooler etc...So I went searching for something that could solve this... and I stumbled upon this, The HydroTrailer. I was super excited, but the excitement was short-lived. Production stopped in 2012. I contacted every dealer I could to see if anyone had one left... but no-one did, I was told the manufacturer just didn't have an interest in making them anymore either... so I called him and he agreed to sell me the moulds and all excess inventory so I could make my own...
My brain started thinking again... is there a market for them and if so how big... In the U.S. alone 47900 new PWC's were sold last year and there are approx 1.2mill avid PWC riders in the U.S. too.... 22% of the adult population are avid campers or outdoor enthusiasts. So if my math is correct there is a huge market (264000 PWC users are avid explorers/campers etc)... Now I know that I can't sell to all 264000 folks at once, but that was a big enough number for me to launch this campaign and ask for your support and contributions.
Why Crowdfunding?
To help me raise the capital for Manufacturing costs and Safety Testing/Certification... I have invested my own time and money thus far, in various ways. I continue to explore avenues to make this a success, but the other options are expensive and at the end of the day those costs get passed on to the consumer through significantly inflated pricing etc... I don't want to do that. I want to deliver a top quality, safe and reliable product at a fair price. Yes, I want Seahorse Trailers to be known for its fairness customer support and service. THE PLAN
We want you to have the HYDRO-TRAILER available as soon as possible. The plan is aggressive but we are confident in our exceptional vendors that it is achievable. Here is the projected timeline for getting the HYDRO-TRAILER available and on the water.
August/September 2015: Get tons of new Indiegogo supporters, launch website and spread the word.
October 2015: Safety and quality assurance testing. Finalize the engineering and place the first production order and procurement of raw materials and components.
November 2015: Finalize the assembly, and packaging,
December 2015: Begin fulfillment to our Indiegogo fans, spectators, riders, pro-riders and champions.
January 2016: Introduce HYDRO-TRAILER at Toronto International Boat Show. Launch online sales platform.
Refinements: As the HYDRO-TRAILER goes into production, there will likely be some minor adjustments to improve the final product. Pre-production prototypes will be made for safety certification and testing and allow us to incorporate any adjustments suggested by our experienced partners to ensure you and your HYDRO-TRAILER remain safe on the water.
Fulfillment: Sometimes things go not as planned such as a supplier misses a deadline, a machine breaks down, or a shipment gets lost. Those things could cause a delay. To minimize the possibility of manufacturing setbacks we will enter the manufacturing stage with at least one back-up supplier for each component.
We will be working with manufacturers who have years of experience delivering excellent products in tremendous quantities. There will no doubt be some surprises along the road, but any obstacle will be addressed by combining our internal knowledge with external expertise, and an overall goal of making the best possible product for you, our supporters and customers.
