Hey
there,
My
name is Malini Jain and I am a Thai student studying Economics and
International Development Studies at McGill University. My goal is to raise
enough money to fund my 6 month internship at the Permanent Mission of Thailand
to the United Nations in New York City.
Working
in the field of international development has been my dream for as long as I
can remember. My journey started as a girl in a small school in Thailand. I was
without any knowledge of English until seven years ago when my parents sent me
to a boarding school in India. Being the only foreign student in class, I faced
and overcome challenges of having to learn English while catching up with
academic workload as well as coping with culture shock. After a few years in
India, I was
admitted to one of the most prestigious international relations programs in the
world – The Presidential Classroom in Washington D.C. It was this opportunity
that introduced me to the field of diplomacy. I further developed my passion
for international development by being involved in a student run NGO at McGill
University and served as the Vice President of External Affairs. With that position,
I expanded the portfolio tremendously through raising money to fund international
volunteering project for seven McGill students to teach English to
underprivileged children in Guatemala, and sending thirteen students to attend
the UN Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW’57) in March 2013. Being a part
of this organization made me realize that I want to wake up every day working
to make this world a better place through international cooperation and
diplomacy.
Now
I have the opportunity to realize my dream as I have been offered an internship
position at the Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations in New York
City. This experience will officially be the biggest stepping stone for my
career in international relations. There are very few students my age from my
country that are fortunate enough to have the opportunities like this. That
being said, I do not want to let it get away. I know I have the passion and
dedication needed to succeed in the field. Unfortunately, the only thing
stopping me is the financial support. With little savings and without your help,
I will not be able to take on this internship without your help.
Approximate
Rent: 1500$ x 6 months = $9000
Food:
200 x 6 = $1200
Total:
$10,200
By helping me,
I want to return the favour not just to you but also to others in need as well.
So,if I reach 50% of my goal,
I will donate $150 toThe UN
Trust Fund to End Violence against Women which aim to prevent violence against
women and girls, a cause extremely close to my heart. http://www.unwomen.org/en/trust-funds/un-trust-fund-to-end-violence-against-women/
And If I am
fortunate enough to reach my goal, I will donate another $150 to the World Food
Program’s Fill the Cup campaign. With that amount of money, you will help me
feed over 600 meals to children in developing countries! https://www.wfp.org/donate/fillthecup
I hope you do donate to this cause. Help me help others by
sending me to New York! If you have any questions about my campaign, the
internship or anything in general, feel free to contact me. I look forward to
your contribution!
Kind regards,
Malini Jain
