Overview
Sentry is the world's first truly console-sized gaming PC chassis. It houses powerful components within a volume below 7 litres, which over the decades has been considered the optimal size for all media appliances residing in front of a TV.

We believe that enclosing full-fledged gaming PC inside the form factor of console is the future of gaming, so we spent over two years iterating and perfecting designs through multiple prototypes, to finally bring Sentry to life.

Design of Sentry started within the group of enthusiasts gathered at HardForum's Small Form Factor Systems section.



Project's scope was defined, revised and refined thanks to those enthusiasts who spent their time discussing concepts and designs over the project's life.

Sentry would not become what it is today without their contributions to the project from its early days.



To create the smallest possible case supporting powerful components the standard frame-based approach to PC chassis building had to be abandoned. A number of creative ideas were required to make Sentry what it is today.



 
Straight-in GPU installation   
 


Sentry's design lets user put the graphics card directly into the PCI-E slot and does not waste any space for graphics card maneuvering inside the case.

 



Detachable bracket and case cover combined let the case maintain full structural integrity, becoming a self-supported body, which is the same concept that is used in modern car design.

 



 
Solid Riser Grip   
 


 

Sentry uses its own elegant solution that keeps PCI-E riser tightly in place by its plastic body without straining its weld-points. Riser is installed by sliding it into a gap in central wall with two screws tightening this gap's grasp on riser.



 
Air Pocket over GPU   
 


 

The case cover is equipped with a special insertion that creates small air pocket and partitions the space above graphics card, which limits recirculation of hot air in graphics card chamber, effectively increasing thermal performance.



 
Minimalistic PSU Mount   
 


 

Sentry keeps the power supply in place with 3 screws and a grasp of the front wall. This minimalistic mount design lets the user maneuver freely while installing the motherboard before power supply is installed.
 


 

The distance from the side wall and flexibility of Sentry's internal power cord's connector are calculated to support multiple configurations of power connector's location and rotation on the power supply's wall.



 
Multiple Configurations   
 



Finally, to adapt to various use scenarios, Sentry provides multiple 2.5" mounting points that are availiable depending on components that may or may not require to use additional space. Sentry's product page has a visual tool that lets the user test the possible hardware configurations.




 
Extensively Prototyped   
 
 

Design and prototyping stage of the project took over two years to ensure that case body can be manufactured in target quantity.

Over that time we have completed six functional prototypes while also improving case hardware support, external design, ease of use and performance.





 
Optimized Design   
 



During case development numerous simulations were run to optimize vent layout for the best possible airflow and thermal performance.

 





 
Supreme Matte Finish   
 



We have tested multiple paint types looking for an optimal surface finish, to finally decide on high-graininess structural powder coating, which gives the surface a quality look and feel.

 





 
Production Tested   
 



A few small production batches were made to test fitting repeatability, pinpoint possible manufacturing errors and update designs to improve overall production quality.

 





 
100 Units Funding Goal   
 
 

Sentry's body is designed to be manufactured without mass production tooling, which means it can be manufactured in really small quantities.

 

A minimum of 100 units is a quantity required to get wholesale prices for the components that are also included, such as PCI-E riser, power switch etc.

 

Considering all the interest in Sentry, the 100 units target of this campaign is just a small fraction of interested enthusiasts around the world, which means there is virtually no chance that this campaign will fall short of its target.

Sentry was designed and will be manufactured and assembled in Poland. This way we can control the manufacturing process in order to maintain required quality according to specification.

Sentry 1.1 changes from version 1.0 that was delivered for reviews:

  • Added screws for work with magnetic screwdrivers (all screws)
  • Optimized number and types of screws
  • Vertical stand toolless mounting without sliding it (only screws slide)
  • Higher quality of rubber feet for vertical stand
  • 8 welding-points for top-covers insertion (instead of 6-points in version 1.0)
  • Improved detachable GPU bracket
  • Improved middle hdd/ssd holder
  • One welding point at the back of the case changed to one steel rivet
  • Improved cover's screw mounting points for easier fitting screws in holes

There are also many other improvements, which we will not mention here, because those are mostly made for optimization of production, and you, as final SENTRY owners, will not see the difference.

We have limited campaign perks to the countries where we can ship affordable insured packages. We do not want to force expensive shipping costs on clients from other regions.

How do I know if my graphics card will fit inside Sentry?

It will depend on its size. Graphics cards come in many shapes and sizes.

Will Sentry fit M.2 under the motherboard?

Sentry is designed according to ATX form factor specification, therefore it has to have clearance of at least 6.35mm below the motherboard. M.2 slot is also complying to ATX form factor therefore it also has to fit within those 6.35mm.

Sentry has 7mm of clearance under the motherboard with additional cutout reducing weight making it 8mm at the center of the board. M.2 drive requires around 5.5mm of clearance underneath the motherboard so it will fit.

Note that You will have to install M.2 on the motherboard before mounting the board itself, since there is no dedicated removable access panel for that.
 



 
Water Cooling   
 
 

Does Sentry support Water Cooling?

No, at least not out of the box. One of the main targets of the case was to be mobile and water cooling in transport poses risk of leaking.

It is also unpredictible how airlines would treat bringing such PC onboard in carry-on luggage and putting it inside an checked luggage defeats the purpose.

With that said, we have tested such configurations for interested enthusiasts:
