About Us
Shadow Horse Theatre Productions was started in 2004 in Los Angeles by Matt Saxe and Craig Bender. It's current Executive Directors are Matt Kelly and Matt Saxe.
Its goals are to produce new plays by new playwrights, as well as modern or new versions of classic tales for contemporary audiences.
Our most popular productions include the popular "A Drinking Game" series since February 2012, with titles including Princess Bride, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, When Harry Met Sally, The Big Lewbowski, and many others. In addition, we were one of 9 cities in the United States to celebrate World Commedia Day on February 25th, 2012. We also produced two shows for the Minnesota Fringe. Sex, Soap, Torture, Weather - a set of four one-act plays in 2010 and the 4 and 5 star reviewed Grimm for Kids! in 2013, adapted from George Larkin's LA Weekly award winning show.
Our future productions include monthly Drinking Game shows through December 2014, A Kind of Love Story, a 2012 LA Weekly Award winning play by Jenelle Riley and directed by Bethany Simmons making it's Minnesota premiere in February 2014 at the Old Arizona Theater; World Commedia Day on February 25th, and Clive Barker's Crazyface in Summer 2014.
Currently, our past productions have been personally funded by the executive producers. As we venture into bringing unique productions to a larger audience, our costs have increased significantly. The purpose of this campaign is to fund our inaugural 2014 season and you can be a part of making that happen.
Our costs include production items such as theater rentals, props, set construction, lighting, and costumes. Costs also include providing small compensation to the actors, the directors, lighting designers, set designers, stage managers, and other production staff. Our company members often work in various roles throughout the productions and do not receive compensation for the production until it turns a profit on its original budget.
Impact
Shadow Horse Theater's commitment to bringing unique productions mean that the Minneapolis/St Paul theater community will get to experience new plays and productions not seen by other theater companies in the area and sometimes, for the first time in the world.
