Why is This Project Important?
This project
is about protecting lives and saving lives worldwide! It may in fact
be the most important project on Indiegogo! It will allow military units to
capture insurgents instead of killing them. It will allow law enforcement
officers to stop a criminals without killing them. It will allow private
citizens to stop attackers without killing them.
We are
already getting requests from military and law enforcement suppliers from
around the world. We need your support to get these non-lethal smart bullets
into production!
What Are SmartRounds?
These micro-controlled non-lethal, non-impact smart bullets will initially be available in two versions. A ShockRound and a PepperRound.
Each one is equipped with two solid state micro-sensors that turn ON the round
when fired, and activate the round millisecs before impact. These projectiles
are designed to be fired from a standard 12 gauge shotgun at 450 feet per
second and have a range of 100 yards. Both are lightweight, carbon fiber
projectiles that produce a low-recoil which allows them to be fired from various
12 gauge shotgun formats. The ShockRound produces a flash-bang and
nitrogen gas shock wave that disables the assailant. The PepperRound produces a
flash-bang and a capsaicin cloud that causes a burning sensation to the eyes
and throat rendering the assailant unable to continue.
“Our smart
bullets will forever change the landscape for the use of non-lethal weapons by
military forces, law enforcement and others worldwide. When it is
necessary to use SmartRounds™ the community and law enforcement will have peace of mind that there
will likely not be fatal consequences.” Nick Verini - CEO SmartRounds
Technology.
Nick's Story
Nick is a mechanical engineer. He received his BSME from New
Jersey Institute of Technology. He also has a MBA from Rutgers University. Nick
has worked in the field of compressed gases and cryogenics for over 25 years.
He was the founder and principal engineer at Nitronics Systems, Inc. which
designed and manufactured microprocessor controlled nitrogen generators.
In April 1999 things changed dramatically for Nick. That was when the
terrible tragedy of Columbine occurred. Nick had moved his family to Colorado
in 1993. Nick thought if that horrible event could happen in peaceful
Columbine, Colorado then it could happen anywhere in America.
He started thinking about what could be done to prevent this and other
events like this from happening again. He decided that law abiding and trained
individuals needed to have a truly effective non-lethal weapon as a choice to
defend themselves. Recent tragic events involving law enforcement officers and unarmed
citizens reinforce the need for police to have options other than lethal force.
Nick started working on various less-lethal and non-lethal weapons that
military, law enforcement and private citizens could arm themselves with. Nick
started developing less-lethal impact type projectiles but eventually realized
that what was really needed was a non-lethal “smart bullet” that stopped an
assailant.
In 2010 Nick formed SmartRounds Technology, LLC and he began
building various prototypes of smart bullets that could stop an attacker
without being lethal. After four years and many hours of engineering design, building and testing
Nick has arrived at two SmartRounds; a ShockRound and a PepperRound. There is a video on Youtube
that shows these two smart bullets in action.
In order to get from prototype to production SmartRounds Technology is looking
to raise funds on Indiegogo.com
