Meet The Crew!
Jessica Martens - Producer
I was born in the teeny tiny town of Port Perry, Ontario, where most of my neighbours were either cows or corn fields. I lived there for 19 years before moving to Toronto to attend Humber College for Film and Media Production. Over the last three years I've tried out different jobs such as editor, writer, director, and producer; but post-production is where I have the most fun. Smooth is important to me because as I near the end of my schooling I find myself looking into the near future more often and getting more terrified. Smooth is a great example to show that everyone has those moments in their lives.
Mikey Tachuk - Director
Hi friends! My name is Mikey Tachuk, but most Starbucks baristas call me Mickey. I'm a filmmaker and Director born in Ottawa, Canada posing as a Torontonian in hopes of creating amazing films to give my Grandma something to brag to her friends about at the home. Directing films has always been a passion of mine; I've been doing it most of my life without even knowing it. My love for film sprouted at a young age when I would take my mom's camera and record cringe-worthy YouTube skits with my friends. Today, although the production quality is (significantly) higher, I still tackle each project with the same mindset I had when I was 11 years old. I believe the secret to a successful film is maintaining a good work:fun ratio, and this is especially true on a comedy film set. Smooth has everything I look for in a comedy. It'll make you laugh, learn, and love. I personally feel like the comedy genre is undervalued in today's society, but I want to prove that a well-crafted comedy can have the same impact as a suspenseful drama. Thank you for your time, and I cannot wait to show you all Smooth!
Rachel Milne - Writer/Director of Photography
Heya! Rachel here and I know what you're thinking, " Writer, cinematographer, AND an amazing actor? Wow, impressive." Oh, you weren't thinking that… okay, so acting isn't my forte. 2 of 3 ain't bad though, right? But seriously, telling stories is my jam, its something I've always loved doing. And being able to bring them to life through a camera lens, well that's like the peanut butter in my happiness sandwich! This project is extra special to me because the story relates closely to some of my working experiences. It's a dark and scary world out there beyond school and this story explores many of my own personal fears and expectations for the future. Plus, dealing with asshole bosses can make anyone go a little crazy, amirite? All that said, I am beyond excited to begin shooting this project. It's the largest and most intimidating venture we've embarked on but my incredible team and I cannot wait to make Smooth a reality!
Bryan Fischer - Editor
Hi everyone! My name is Bryan and I'm a picture editor, born and raised in Waterloo, Ontario. Throughout my time at Humber, I've been an editor on many projects including: music videos, short films and documentary work. I'm so excited to get to help bring the story of Smooth to life!
Jordie McDonald - Art Director
As an aspiring production designer with a background in costume and prop making, I love to explore unique ideas and create intricate sets in order to make attractive looking films. I've worked as an art director on several short films and was featured in a documentary about cosplay.
Johnathan Branganolo - Key Grip
Hi! My name is Jonathan and I'm your friendly neighbourhood Key Grip! I'll be in charge of working closely with the Director of Photography to set up lights, equipment, camera rigs and all sorts of cool setups! I'm psyched to work hard to facilitate all the cool lighting and camera setups the Director of Photography could ever want!
Billy McCormick - Camera Operator
My name is Billy and I am a cinematographer and camera operator based in Toronto, Ontario. I love shaping the look of the film through the lens, and am also extremely versatile in my onset and offset skills. I am always ready to take on the next project and showcase my abilities within the camera department.
