How did   came up with the idea?

Increasing number of people nowadays are trying to enjoy their lives outside their homes and offices.

Also, it became essential that we have our digital devices ready with us to enjoy our time to the fullest, such as smart phones, digital camera, tablet pc and so forth!

Furthermore, earth is getting hotter and hotter with global warming. There must be earth-friendly way to enjoy our lives.

So, Dr.JSun took these three facts into consideration and came up with the idea of Sol-Mat.

Picnic mat is the basic item to take out with you when you do any kind of outdoor activity and adding solar panel to this mat created something extraordinary.

By using Sol-Mat, people can now enjoy their outdoor activity with unlimited access to electricity born from the sun.

Sol-Mat will generate electricity as long as there is sun outside. With Dr.JSun’s technology, Sol-Mat increased its sunlight-capturing ability to its fullest that it still works even under the shade…though the generation power will be bit weaker than in direct sunlight, obviously ;P

How did Dr.JSun realized her idea?

Sol-Mat Design Sketch requirements:

1. It should be portable therefore foldable

2. Should be portable so shouldn’t be so big, yet still powerful

By fulfilling those two requirements, Dr.JSun created the final design where there are

3 powerful solar panel that produce 15 W energy + a picnic mat foldable to a size of a handbag.

Based on this outline, Dr.JSun created her final prototype with a final size of :

When spread out, 208 x 97.5 x 0.2 cm. Great size for one or two person to use at once!
When folded, only 33 x 23 x 11 cm, a size of a handy handbag.
And last but not least, it only weight 1.17 kg which is extremely light for an item containing 15 W solar panel!

What is 8000mAh power bank in the last perk?

This is also the creation by Dr.JSun, and she named it V8000. This portable power bank can fully charge your phone at least twice and a bit more for sure. Its 5V 2A output for your smartphones will fast charge both android and ios phones no prob. In addition, it can kick start your car when your car battery is out through its 12V output.

With Sol-Mat, you can fully charge this power bank in less than 3 hours under 1 sun condition (which means more or less sunlight at 11am ~ 1 pm in perfect day condition).  So if you go out and have lunch picnic on Sol-Mat, then V8000 will also eat sunlight and be full when you get full :P

A. Sol-Mat itself cannot save the electricity as it simply is a generator. However, you can indeed save all the solar energy generated by linking any portable power bank through the USB Port.

Q. How durable are the solar cells?

A. We assure you that the cells will work to its best for at least 10 years.

Q : Can I spill food on Sol-Mat?

A : Sol-Mat is consisted of two parts. 15 W solar panel and a mat. 15W solar panel is designed to be waterproofed so all you need to do would be to wipe away the food. However, the mat is made of a cloth so it would be bit more difficult to do so. Still, the bottom side of the mat is waterproof, so you wouldn't need to worry of water soaking in from under :P

Q : Isn't it heavy?

A : Sol-Mat provides exceptional quality compared to a disposable vinyl mat. PEVA coated side of the mat is indeed a little bit heavier than the disposable one. However, it is only 1.17kg! (More precisely, 1.165 kg) Quite light considering that it contains 15 W solar panel, as panel itself weights around 0.5 kg. Also, some weight is better to have, for the mat easily flies away by the wind =]
