He launched a very successful Kickstarter to enlist support and was overwhelmed with folks’ interest in hearing more of the dramatic and emotional melodies and textures he is known for.
And now with your help the journey will continue! SON of SEQUEL will continue the trip into the musical realms so richly created in the compositions of Robert Holmes. This all-new collection will forge new ground while again bringing forward the unmistakable emotionally rich and dynamic melodic worlds of Robert Holmes. New themes of power, darkness, hope, expansion, and melancholy, richly produced and orchestrated in a unique mix of traditional and synthesized instruments and textures. This new musical gathering will also feature wonderful guest performances by some of the very best from the worlds of music and gaming, as well as a new and enriching collaboration!

In addition to Robert's compositions, Composer and Sound Designer George Napier (who produces music and videos as ‘gesslr’) will use synths, instruments, and tape-based techniques to create short audio pieces. These interludes will provide the perfect prologues and bridges between Robert's sweeping themes. Son of SEQUEL will reach into new and intriguing musical vistas!” With Robert focusing on the melancholy and hopeful melodies and use of strings and choirs he is known for, and George bringing a modern and technically effected flank of treated and manipulated textures and sound, this will be a musical journey through the relationship of our spiritual and technical selves!

From Jane Jensen:
“We have been so pleased to see the amazing support for the album SEQUEL, and how happy people have been to receive more of the music from the world of GK. For us, not only is it a chance to have more of Robert’s music out in the world- but it’s a great opportunity for us to reconnect with the fans, refocus the fans of GK and Gray Matter, and add some momentum and awareness that this passionate audience exists and is happy to support this work. As we have both said in recent interviews, we would love nothing more but to do some more games in these beloved realms and are doing what we can to help create opportunities for that to happen. Your support of Robert’s music and desire to be involved in the work we do means the world to us, and to creating momentum toward these possibilities!”

“Robert Holmes wove an epic tapestry for his soundtrack to the Gabriel Knight series, combining themes of setting and character with operatic themes that transcend even these. Jane Jensen’s games are supernatural mysteries with colorful characters, but are also more: Each is a sweeping, emotionally charged battle for the protagonist’s soul. Robert’s score captures the breathtaking scope and spiritual dimension of these battles, from the New Orleans bayou to the deep woods and historic castles of Bavaria. And of course, there is that dazzling set piece of the series, the lost opera of Wagner, that only a composer of tremendous ability could pull off. It is impossible to imagine these games achieving the same emotional impact, the same depth, without the haunting music that gave them life.” Ilana C. Myer, author of Last Song Before Night
"Robert Holmes wrote game soundtracks that delighted and haunted me as an impressionable teenager with his Gabriel Knight scores, and he's lost none of the magic in the intervening years. He has, however, a highly dubious sense of picking competent drummers, but that shouldn't stop you from backing this project." - Troels Pleimert, Space Quest Historian and drummer on "Sequel"
"I first heard Robert Holmes's music on the Gabriel Knight 1 demo, and I was hooked. Sequel is every bit as beautiful and compelling - it's sure to delight both longtime fans of Gabriel Knight and brand new listeners." Sarah Kelley
“When Robert Holmes’ new cd Sequel arrived I was excited as I have loved his music for a long time. I can definitely say he did not disappoint! From Empyreal Crimson which evoked in me hope and peace, to the sense of adventure created by Back In The Saddle, to the feelings of sadness and loss I felt for Kirsten’s Theme these are beautifully spun threads through which Robert’s passion and love for what he does is stunningly clear.” Helen Platt
“Talk about layered texture, this album has so many layers it is a feast for the ears, so much reminiscent of the games they are influenced by. SEQUEL is a fantastic album that captures the central idea of dramatic game music, and being a fan of Gabriel Knight and Gray Matter I was especially pleased! Robert Holmes has once again proven that he is a master of his musical craft and with a fantastic team has created an album that I will listen to again and again.” Anna Vigue
“Robert Holmes seems to find that balance of remaining true to what made fans enjoy his music in the first place while introducing new ideas. I am very honored to have had even a small part in helping out with this project.“ Jon Paul Sapsford
