Filmmakers Ward Serrill (
The Heart of the Game, Miramax) and Sophie Jane Mortimer have teamed up with award-winning editor Eric Frith and New York Times animator Drew Christie to create a unique documentary -
Song of the New Earth: Tom Kenyon and the Power of Sound.
The Project
This documentary follows the extraordinary life and work of country singer, brain scientist and sound shaman, Tom Kenyon. It's the story of one man's quest to merge modern science, ancient mysticism and sacred sound to awaken humanity's potential.
The Story
Tom Kenyon was on his way to fame as a country singer in Nashville when he began to experience uninvited altered states of consciousness, visits from angels and other paranormal events.
So he went on a quest to try and make sense of these bizarre happenings. He became an expert in many of the world’s spiritual traditions: Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism, Taoism, Egyptian alchemy and Christian mysticism.

But religion did not give him all the answers he needed, so he turned to science. He discovered that neurophysiology had a language that could help explain his mystical experiences. He spent years studying the effects of sound, music and language on the human brain and nervous system.
Then he had an encounter that turned his world upside down. In meditation he was visited by beings from a parallel universe calling themselves the Hathors. They gave him information on altering brain states with sound. Skeptical, he tested them and the results were remarkable. People experienced dramatic healings, in some cases of paralysis and cancer.
With these new insights, Tom began to use his nearly four-octave range voice in a powerful new way; using a method he called “toning.” Tom’s group of followers quickly expanded to include large worldwide audiences as they experienced the immediate profound effects of his toning sounds.
When he met his wife, Judi Sion, an even greater life mission ensued: To restore feminine power and energy and help ensure the survival of a dangerously unbalanced world. As one of the foremost sound healers working today, he began to sing the Song of the New Earth.

More about the team...
Behind the scenes, Song of the New Earth is a love story. Ward Serrill and Sophie Jane Mortimer decided to get married after being treated to a private sound toning by Tom Kenyon in Southern France while were looking into doing a film on Mary Magdalene. That film became this film. This film has been a creation of their first four years of marriage, an alchemical mix of wonder, challenge, mystery and beauty.
Director Ward Serrill
Ward is an award-winning director whose last feature was released by Disney/Miramax to wide critical acclaim (The Heart of the Game) which Ebert and Roeper called, “An Oscar-level piece of work.” He has created more than 90 short films including Building One House with Robert Redford, and Wild America with Sissy Spacek. Ward’s work has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show and been reviewed by Jay Leno, Good Morning America, People Magazine, USA Today, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and many others. In 2010 he completed 50 award-winning short films for Paul Allen’s Vulcan Productions in Seattle to help improve teaching in schools. Recently he completed a mini documentary for PBS called Something in the Water on Seattle’s music scene.
Producer Sophie Jane Mortimer
Sophie was living her passion for social change within the UK not-for-profit world before she embarked upon a radical career change as a Yoga Teacher focused on feminine empowerment. After years of in-depth study, her plans to dive headfirst into the rapture were foiled when she met Ward, the love of her life, who invited her to create this unique and revolutionary film with him, one that could bring masculine/feminine balance to the planet on a huge scale. Bringing her diverse talents, and intuitive knowledge of the deep feminine to Woody Creek Pictures, Sophie serves as Producer/Writer and Marketing and Communications Director.
