History of the Dead
Soulmass is a project which started in 2013 as a collaboration between Brett Windnagle (Lascaille's Shroud) and Bryan Edwards (ex-Seven Kingdoms) to share our love for the popular video game Dark Souls in musical form. The project was originally called
Kingdoms of Flesh and released an EP in 2013 for free download that garnered interest from the underground death metal community and Souls fans, leading to an interview with Financial Post which had us considering the future of the band. With a more serious approach to our material in mind, we decided to change our name to
Soulmass and started working on a debut album.

Over the course of 2013/ 2014, we have endured much personal struggle. Brett was nearly homeless at one point, and Bryan dealed with considerable health and family issues. These challenges helped us channel music for the album which we feel fully translates the hopeless and bleak nature of the Souls games into death/doom/black metal form. Now that the album is complete and we have some beautiful artwork done by Bo Bradshaw ofBrilliant Engine, we need the help of our fans and the Souls community to bring it to life. If this campaign is successful, we will be able to print physical copies of the album with full booklet, "Soul Crushing Death Metal" t-shirts for all the fans who requested them, and some nice 11x17 posters of the artwork for everybody to hang up on their walls.
Without the kindness and support of the Souls community, this album might never have happened in the first place. Let's continue to show the world how much we love these tales of dark fantasy and despair!
Prepared to Die
This is an all or nothing campaign, if we don't meet our goal all finances will be refunded. We want to ensure everyone gets what they pay for, and we ourselves have already planned to set aside further personal funding as much as we can to help get some of the accessories of this campaign up and going for everyone. If we meet our goal this will go smoothly and efficiently.
Our album has already been written, recorded, mixed, and mastered. There is no studio time to consider, no production delays or any other substantial obstacles aside from funding. With your help this project can be a guaranteed success, and we can get perks out to everyone quickly!
Summoning a Phantom
We definitely understand and sympathize for anyone who just can't afford to donate. However, simply sharing this project around with fellow metal fans and Souls fans can help immensely. The community is capable of great things and word of mouth remains ever powerful.
