SYNOPSIS –
Sprout is
the story of a young Guatemalan girl’s mission to help find a solution to her
family’s farming dilemma through relentless study and humble science
experiments. It is a creative, inspiring and informative look on life & resourcefulness on Guatemalan farmlands.
We follow
Astrid, racing against time, to develop an effective fertilizing solution as we
simultaneously follow two scientists who explore the aftermath of mono-crop
outsourcing. While the story carries scientific undertones, it is ultimately about the power of the mind and human spirit.
Our choice for a narrative short medium over a documentary was to
allow innovative storytelling and compelling creative vision (including dream-like ANIMATION) to inspire and motivate
audiences.

Written by
a talented Latino actor/writer team, Henry Alberto and Evelyn Lorena and
directed by talented filmmaker Maris Lidaka, we are convinced the short has
potential to move audiences and bring light to a dire reality – that of crop
outsourcing and subsequent poverty in Guatemala.

MISSION
STATEMENT –
![]()
![]()
To create
an innovative and compelling story that both raises awareness and entertains.
Earlier
this year, upon Evelyn Lorena’s return from her native homeland of Guatemala,
she sat down with this creative team of individuals to share her stories and
experiences of Guatemala’s native people, particularly one’s from rural areas.
Moved by what was discussed and learning more about the ethical, financial and
scientific aspects behind their poverty, our script arose – or “sprouted” if
you will.
SPROUT has a truly impressive creative team, which has come together
for three reasons:
·
To
bring consciousness to several issues that affects not only the Guatemalan people
but the global economy: poverty and hunger among rural farmers; over mono-cropping and the impacts on soil as well as the aftermath on subsistence
farmers’ well-being and lifestyle; and potential creative ethical solutions
that minimize mono-crop cultivation.
·
To
gain opportunity for a wider audience through media and American &
International Film Festivals
·
To
celebrate the work and resourcefulness of the Guatemalan farmer, so as to
create appreciation, inspiration, and awareness on a global scale.
