Step Into: The King Opera House - TRAILER
Following the success of our Regional Emmy Award winning STEP INTO: THE KING OPERA HOUSE, (Best Director: Devon Parks, Best Short Format Program: Devon Parks/Chuck King) we realized the tremendous potential that our medium holds in recreating our area’s fascinating history. The STEP INTO series seeks to immerse our audience in the world we create by introducing them to locations with historical character and significance that speaks for itself. We bring those locations to life by placing within them the personalities who worked, played, and struggled to build Fort Smith and the River Valley as we know it today. We devote our attention to accurate period details that give our viewers a rare glimpse of Fort Smith and its surroundings as it once was. It is our way of honoring the past while helping to build the future by contributing to the arts, culture, interest and promotion of our community.
We are able to do this because we have assembled an award winning team of artists who share our vision and are willing to contribute their creative talents at a fraction of the cost expected in standard industry rates at other locations. We depend on local volunteers to help us in practically every aspect of film making, simply because they believe this effort has value for all of us. We dare to believe that MAD POSSUM can be a driving force in bringing the film industry a little closer to home.

OUR TEAM
Our Vision
MAD POSSUM PICTURES will produce a film approximately 20-30 minutes in length. In narrative form, STEP INTO: MISS LAURA’S SOCIAL CLUB will dramatize the “hey day” of Miss Laura’s Bordello; 1905 through the 1930s, with historical accuracy. Through the eyes and recollections of Bertha Dean, we will follow her days as a working girl for the astute but illusive Laura Zeigler, and through Bertha’s eventual purchase and years as the reigning “madam” of the house. MPP will oversee and exercise creative control and responsibility for all aspects of the film’s creation: from pre-production, to casting, sets, props, costuming, musical scoring etc., through editing and post production.
STEP INTO MISS LAURA’S will provide a compelling visual tool for the Fort Smith Visitor Center’s thousands of annual guests, as well as for other locations such as The Fort Smith Museum of History, civic clubs, historical societies, and other institutions. With the projected opening of the Marshal’s Museum in 2017, an even greater number of visitors to our area should be expected. Visual tools and media are a must. We anticipate that our production will enhance, but not replace, the already excellent informative tour provided by Miss Laura’s volunteers, by focusing on the human interest and imaginative aspects of Miss Laura’s story. We fully expect that the film will qualify for broadcast on AETN, as well as other outlets, creating even more interest and tourism to our area.
We are excited about the possibility of re-creating for you a glimpse into Miss Laura’s through our camera lens. Mad Possum has earned national recognition through our Emmy award winning- STEP INTO: THE KING OPERA HOUSE, and we are certain that our creative team will produce an outstanding film that you will be proud to screen to Fort Smith visitors for years to come.
And finally, our vision extends beyond Miss Laura’s: planning is already under way for a third installment of the STEP INTO series: THE CLAYTON HOUSE, coming in 2018.
