Most of us are lucky to be born with three gifts: a body in perfect health, a mind in perfect balance and the gift of time. These are wonderful and precious gifts. Our body carries us through life. Our mind manages the journey. Our time is ours to use.. 

But during our life journey, part of our health and time is stolen. Not only by disease or age, but also by other people, who knowingly steal pieces of our health and time, to make a buck for themselves. They do this by tricking us into unhealthy lifestyle habits.

The Stepbac method helps you to defend your unique and precious gift of health and time and take back control.

Your body has a natural immune system that provides a general defense against attack from harmful germs and substances. Your mind doesn't. Every day without you knowing it, your mind is being attacked to influence your choices and to implant new and harmful habits. You may think you're in full control of all your choices, but you're not.

Your mind doesn't have an effective defense system to prevent manipulation. You need protection. We invite you to learn to defend your health and time using Stepbac.

Common sense 

We're all faced with many complex lifestyle choices every day. We get thousands of offers and deals of all kinds. To choose which are best for our future health and happiness, we use the 'common sense area' of our brain.

Common sense is how we describe our brain's ability to make a quick and sensible decision in daily situations.  After taking a simple look at a situation, we combine what we can see with our pre-stored knowledge - and then we decide what to do.  We call this 'using our common sense'. Here's the formula:

what we see + what we know = our common sense. 

Here's an example of how you might use your common sense in a simple situation. You see broken glass on the ground. You use your stored knowledge of how glass can cut skin and cause pain. The combination of what you see and what you know, helps you to make the quick and sensible decision to avoid stepping on the broken glass.

Our brain's common sense works very well for simple situations like that. Unfortunately, for more complex situations, the common sense area of our brain is out-of-date. It's expired. Basically, it sucks. It sucks, because it has not been updated since caveperson times.
 

Caveperson common sense

Cave people lived in simple times. They faced simple threats and situations. What they saw, combined with what they already knew from previous situations, helped them to make sensible decisions for survival.

For example: A caveman meets an animal.  He sees that it's very big. He already has stored knowledge that it would take a big group of cavepeople to kill such a big animal. His common sense, which is what he sees and what he already knows, helps him to make the quick and sensible decision not to fight the animal alone.

The common sense area of the brain was perfect for making sensible decisions to keep cavepeople safe in their simple kinds of situations... in caveperson times!

 

21st century common sense

Fortunately, we don't live in caveperson times. We're in the 21st century. Unfortunately, we still only have the caveperson common sense area of our brain. And that's a big problem.

Our modern lives have very different and complex situations with longer term threats, but our caveperson brains have not evolved or adapted fast enough to keep up with the complicated challenges of modern life.

For example: sales promotions. There were no special deals for cavepeople. No 'Buy 2 spears get 1 free'. But we modern humans are offered special deals all the time. And without you knowing it, many special deals are subtlety designed to confuse and trick our 'out-of-date' caveperson common sense area into making a quick and bad decision, instead of a quick and sensible decision. 

"Get 3 for the price of 2!" At first glance, that's a great deal. Remember the definition of using common sense to make a quick and sensible decision. It's what we see and what we already know. You see on the offer sign that you'll pay for 2 but get 3. And, you know the price of 2 is less than the price of 3. Your 'common sense' will quickly tell you this is a good deal and you're saving money, so the quick and sensible decision is to take this great deal.

But is it really a great deal? No, it is not. Your caveperson common sense is being tricked. You forgot to ask yourself, do I need 3 items? Did I go to the store intending to buy 3 items? No. I only wanted to buy what I needed, which was 1 item. So what happened? You only needed 1, but you ended up buying 3.  How did your common sense get it so wrong? Simple, it was tricked! 

Say this was a 3 for the price of 2 offer on food. You paid twice as much as you intended to - or needed to. That's 100% more. You got 2 more items than you intended - or needed.  That's 200% more. You might consume 2 items more than you intended too. Again, 200% more. Or you might end up eating 1 item more and throwing away the last item. That's 100% more eaten and 100% food waste.

In the case of food products, thousands of so-called 'great deals'  trick people into spending more, eating more and throwing out more. These deals are a major factor in overeating which leads to overweight, bad health and misery.  So-called 'great deals'  on non-food products also  easily trick people into spending more, storing more and throwing out more which is a major cause of overspending, pollution and waste.

This "3 for 2" deal is a small example but multiply it by the thousands of deals and offers you get every year. Then multiply it by billions of people in modern society and you can quickly see how trillions of superfluous and unnecessary products are being manufactured, packaged, transported, stored and consumed or thrown away.

Our caveperson common sense area is constantly being tricked into making new bad habits and harmful lifestyle decisions by aggressive and manipulative marketing methods. 

Smartphone overuse is exacerbating the problem, because app algorithms create both an addiction to the phone and addictive content is a catalyst for other compulsive behavioural habits like gambling, eating, shopping and gaming.

The common sense area that worked so well for cavepeople, still works for us in simple situations, like seeing broken glass, but for the many complicated decisions of modern life and the constant manipulation of marketing, it sucks. It needs an urgent update,  

Stepbac is the update.

 

Your mind is under attack

Without you knowing it, your brain is under constant attack. Scientific knowledge of how the brain works is very advanced. This knowledge is being used for good purposes, for example to cure disease, but... it's also being used for bad purposes, like tricking us into constantly buying and craving a ton of stuff we don't need.

Modern scientific knowledge of how the brain works, makes it ridiculously easy for corporations to abuse science to trick our caveperson "common sense" brain area into learning and using new, bad lifestyle habits.

Bad habits, as we all know, often lead to bad health - and bad happiness. Who feels good when they are sick or stressed? No-one.

 

Habits are all learned

Habits are not genetic or hereditary. Habits are all taught or learned. Newborn babies have no habits. A person's habits are taught or learned throughout life. Habits can be good, bad, old or new. 

A habit is something you do without thinking. Like using a knife and fork. Or tying your shoelaces. Children can't do these things until they learn. After learning, they can do it without thinking. It becomes a habit. We all have and use many daily habits without thinking.

These examples of habits were created by our parents. Our brain learned and stored them for automatic use. We have thousands of good and useful habits. Things we do without effort and without thinking.

 

The choices we make

We make many daily choices based on our stored habits. Remember all habits are all taught or learned. So although it may feel like you are making all your own choices... ask yourself who taught you the habits that you base your choices on?

Your oldest habits were taught to you by parents and teachers in early life. Who taught you your newest habits? The ones you use now in adult life. Did you? Did your friends? Or was it someone else?

Don't forget: all habits are all taught or learned. What if someone is 'hijacking' your brain to make new habits without your permission or knowledge. New habits that can change the choices you make. Choices that are not good for you. New, bad, useless habits to control your choices. What if?

There is no 'what if.'
It's already happening.

New bad habits... like eating more that we need to... like overusing phones... like shopping for things we already have many of...  Our brain sucks at protecting us from new dumb habits.

The average quality of life in the western world has never been better at any time in history than it is now... but we've never been more ill, depressed and miserable. And the planet has never been so polluted with waste products.

What if you move? There's some effort and discomfort involved in moving. You have to sort, pack, carry stuff, cancel or move subscriptions and then install it all in your new home.  

After everything is in place in the new home, you're settled in. Then it's effortless and easy again.

That's what changing a habit is like. You have a bad habit that is automatic, effortless and easy. You need to make a small effort to change it.  After this small effort it comes a new habit that once again is automatic, effortless and easy. But it will be different. Now it's a good habit.

It's easy to have a bad habit - and it's just as easy to have a good habit. It's easy to snack too much - and it's just as easy not to snack too much. Good or bad, both are habits - and habits are automatic, effortless and easy. They only need controlling or changing.

Who are we?

We're Carl and Peter Williams. We created the Stepbac method. We're brothers of English/Danish origin who are now long-term residents of Spain. We're 61 and 60 years old.

We created the Stepbac method in our mid-50s. We did it to improve our health, not our wealth. We felt we were losing control of our weight and health, and we wanted a simple way to stop constantly being tricked into creating new unwanted lifestyle habits to make sure that our quality of life would not decline in our later years.

We started to take a Stepbac in many ways and we were amazed at how easy it was to get back in control of our own health and how much that improved our well-being and happiness. We replaced many dumb and bad habits. Stepbac still defends us from making bad habits. Stepbac has worked extremely well for us personally since 2016 - and now we want to share our method with everyone.

6 years and 3 books. We've already spent 6 years developing and testing Stepbac. We written and published three Stepbac books. We've invested our time and savings. We know Stepbac works. We've never been healthier or happier. We're still in it for our health, not our wealth. 

As we move into the last half of our lives, we can see more than ever that health is the real wealth you need in life - and it can't be bought - it can only be secured. 

We're confident we can manage the expansion of Stepbac. We've got 80 years of combined experience in business as entrepreneurs in a wide variety of fields in many countries and languages, ranging from Greenland to Mexico to Spain.

While developing Stepbac we continued working with other jobs. One of our most recent jobs was in the tourist business in Barcelona. These jobs were shut down in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid pandemic. We adapted to the pandemic and found online work. But despite our own financial challenges, in 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, we still gave away hundreds of e-book editions of one of our books to help people get through confinement without weight gain.

We always do our very best. We're honest, hardworking and we're not greedy.

 

Our Vision

We want to help as many people as possible understand how important Stepbac could be for their future health, happiness and hope. 

Stepbac is a simple method to learn how to control habits... but it's much more than that.

It's about understanding why being in control of your habits, is crucial to controlling both your health, and your happiness.

If you don't know how to control your own habits; how to make new habits, delete old ones - and mostly importantly - how to decide who gets to influence your newest habits, then you will never fully be in control of your health... or of your time... or of your weight... or of any of the important choices of your life. 

So Stepbac could be life changing for you, because if you can learn to control all your habits then you will be in full control of your life, health and happiness.
