Stethoscope Press is a student-run writing and publishing group at Wesleyan University.
Each year, we select several writers who work one-on-one with an editor to produce a book of original work. This year, we're printing five books: a novella, a collection of poems, two collections of short stories, and a book of essays.
Throughout the academic year, our writers and editors work together closely, exhanging drafts and meeting often. Starting about now, our writers sit down with our small design team to transform their texts into beautiful bound books. These will arrive on campus in early May, where they will be available free of charge.
By now, our writers and editors have just about finished the writing and editing process, so the books themselves are written. Unfortunately, our budget is significantly less than we need to print our full run of books, so we are asking for your help to finish the job!
Last year, we printed 420 copies each of four books, and these all vanished in days. This year, however, we currently don't have enough money to print even 200 copies of each. We are working with several departments and campus organizations to obtain more funding, and we will be holding a bake sale next week, but to close our budget gap for good, we'll need significantly more money than we can obtain by any of these means.
Please consider donating to Stethoscope! Any amount, however small, means a lot. It costs $4.40 to print one copy of any one book, so by donating just $10, you'll be funding two whole books. For $22, you'll be supporting one copy each of all five books.
We are offering some great rewards for donations. Take a look! (Prizes with an asterisk by the title are only practically available to donors in or near Middletown, CT. Sorry!) We will mail copies of the books to any donors not on campus!
See below for samples from the books, and for an article about Stethoscope published in the Wesleyan Argus.
