What is the blummin film about?
The short film is called Still Got It. It is a quirky, nostalgic story about an 85 year old man called Jim. He struggles at home with his daughter and full-time carer Karen, whose over-bearing approach to his care leaves him unable to do the things he loves. Our story begins when Jim decides to hide his asthma inhalers and feign an asthma attack. The goal is to trick Karen into leaving the house, so that Jim is free to re-live his past.. Sounds good right?!

THE MESSAGE
I want to tell this story because it carries what I think is an important message. It is that it's important to remember that older people still have skills, interests and hobbies. I feel as though the younger generation today don’t always view older people as having had a life prior to being old. I find this troubling as it is the older generation who have lived the most vibrant and varied lives. Still Got It aims to highlight this in a playful and charming way.
MY CREATIVE VISION
In terms of my creative vision, I want to craft something that truly puts a smile on people’s faces. I see this film as something that would resemble a live-action version of a Pixar animated short film. It is playful in it’s approach, with several quirky and comedic moments, but at its heart it carries a poignant message. I think that short films are often an opportunity for filmmakers to push the boat out and really experiment with style and narrative. This film will definitely be an example of this, however, I also believe that there is still room for short films that are conceptually simple, beautifully crafted but whose main purpose is to provide straight-up, old-school entertainment.

I aim to shoot this film in a traditional style, to match the subject matter and create a nostalgic feel. This will include use of track and dolly shots to help move the camera seamlessly through the scene, using images to propel the story forward and relying less on dialogue. I also aim to employ simple focus racking to ease the audiences attention between important elements within the scene.
I love films that you can tell have spent a long time designing shots so that they are not only beautiful images but so that they are also packed with information that helps to tell the story. Your donations will help massively to achieve this, enabling us to rent out the gear we need.

Who the heck are we?
MILES DICKINSON - Writer/Director
I'm Miles, a 24 year-old writer and director based in London. I've made two short films prior to this, both of which have been selected at prominent film festivals. Filmmaking is my life, I live and breathe it! My latest short film The Pessimist was shortlisted into the top 10 out of over 150 submissions at the 2018 Sci-Fi London Film Festival and was screened to a live audience at Stratford Picturehouse.
I've been making short films for most of my life and with each and every project I have been improving my craft, and I feel extremely confident in Still Got It. I want to do my absolute best to bring this great script to life but for that to happen we need your help. I honestly think that audiences will really connect with the film and I thoroughly believe that with your help, whatever it may be, we can create a really entertaining and charming film!
SAM SIMMONS-BETTS and MATT ASHWORTH - Producers
Hi, we are Sam and Matt, the producers on this short film. We have been in the film industry for almost 2 years now, holding a number of different roles and are currently working together at one of London’s biggest production houses. We have the experience of working on numerous exciting projects from films, through to commercials and music videos. We have been lucky enough to work with and learn from some of the industries biggest and most respected directors and producers. We helped produce ‘The Pessimist’ with Miles and know that he has the ability to tell a great story which is why we are so excited to be working on with this project with him. It is a simple and sweet script that we feel will connect well with audiences. Please help us make the vision come to life.
MARK VAN HEUSDEN - Collaborator and 1st Assistant Director
It's Miles here again! Mark is a Writer and Director from the Netherlands who now lives in London. After meeting him on set for a job we were both working on, we instantly hit it off with our shared love for cinema. Mark's latest short film British Graffiti is currently doing the rounds at film festivals. It's a fantastic dark comedy about a fine art student who after failing to enter the art world, resorts to taking a job at his local supermarket. After watching Mark's film I knew straight away that he had a keen eye for designing shots and scene structure. We are teaming up on Still Got It to share ideas and split some of the producing responsibilities. Mark will also be taking on the role of 1st Assistant Director.
