Still Playing Punk is a documentary looking at Cape Town punk rock through the eyes of ska, punk band Half Price. Using their story as a backdrop, and their ability to constantly go against the grain, Half Price are ideal observers and spokesmen for a scene that they helped build and still continue to contribute to. Still Playing Punk is a story of playing by your own rules, the persistence of passion and how music became integral to the lives of the band itself and the community surrounding and supporting it.

Still Playing Punk peers into an often overlooked subculture and by following the story of Half Price, explores how youth excitement and energy can still continue to grow and adapt as you get older. This is a story about friends, family, punk rock, passion and being true to yourself.

Over the past few months, our team has been traveling across the world to talk to musicians, managers, promoters, and artists who have over the years become great friends with Half Price. Their insight into bands, punk rock, passion and the friends they made along the way is what fuels this story and displays the power and reach of punk rock.

We want to make this more than just a documentary. All of the team are very close to the story and we want to tell a sincere and honest story, that will look uniquely different and stand out from the rest of the herd.

Instead of using digital heavy titling and graphic sequences we are going to create real effects and titling that we will shoot in camera. We will also shoot dramatisations and reenactments of certain key events to emphasis their importance.

So far we have funded the initial part of this documentary by ourselves and  what we raise through this campaign will be used to finish up the project.  The funds will be used to travel to Windhoek in Namibia and Johannesburg and Durban in South Africa, to complete the remaining interviews. The funding will also go towards shooting additional content like the in camera titles and the dramatizations and towards post production.
