WHO ARE WE?
We are the creative team working along side of MARK BARKAN on his next big musical venture: STREET WALKER.
Step into our world. Glimpse behind the curtain of the rarely revealed and taboo world of escort service. Our musical is not political in any way, but meant to share the story of a girl, a runaway who is finding her path along the pavement of New York City. This is a love story rooted in finding family.
The show opens with a jazz ballet. Rosie arrives in New York City. She is on the run from an abusive home. When she’s attacked in the bus terminal Port Authority a group of prostitutes rescue her. We follow Rosie as she takes control of her body and her life; as she meets and falls in love with Bobby, from Hell’s Kitchen. And we explore the meaning and shape of an "unconventional" family.
Launching a show all the way to Broadway is a feat! We need to take the first crucial steps: mount the workshop production in association with Actors Equity; leverage our talent to recruit investors; and perfect our show along the way.
WHO IS MARK BARKAN?
An accomplished composer and lyricist with over 500 recordings and over 800 publications. His songs have been sung by Olivia Newton John, Elvis Presley, Petula Clark and so many more.... Remember Banana Splits? This him!
Director/Co-Book Writer Jessica Jennings has a background in dance that is the perfect match for this complex musical. The genres we are pulling from span from tap to hip-hop. She is one of the rare talents with background in music, theatre, dance and acting who can lead these actors toward telling a compassionate story though song and dance. She is a 6-time Jean Dalrymple Award winner for theatre, she also holds a Dominique DiPaolo Award in Choreography. She was nominated to the Princess Grace Foundation for her Direction of Romeo & Juliet in 2012.
Showcase Cast will Include:
Monica Albizo, Bobby Allan, Johnny Blaze-Leavitt, Kyrie Ellison, Troy D. Wallace, and Tomo Watanabe. We intend to hire these Equity Actors pending approval: Erick Carter, Kyle Sallee, Tom Treadwell,
WHY CROWDFUNDING?
Our need is seed funding to launch the show as a workshop production. This is the first step along our path to a Broadway premier.
We need $90,000. Raising the first $40,000 by crowdfunding is a sure signal to investors that we are credible.
The full funding budget will be used directly on:
Artistic Salaries ($54,000);
Raw materials ($5,000);
Marketing ($5,000); and
Venue and rehearsal spaces ($26,000).
CAN WE HEAR THE MUSIC?
