Short Summary
Strike
A Light is a musical extravaganza based on the Matchgirls strike of
1888. Written by Fatima Uygun, Colin Poole and Jim Monaghan with music
by Gavin Livingstone it tells the story of how young female workers took
on their bosses and won in a rich mix of music hall songs, dance, drama and
politics.
It takes place as part of the Southside Festival and will be staged in the historic, 'Steamie', the new home of the Govanhill Theatre Group at the Govanhill Baths, 99 Calder Street, Glasgow G42 from the 19th to 23rd of May 2015.
Folk can contribute from £5 upwards. Any amount is welcome.
£30 will get you two free tickets to the show plus an autographed programme, acknowledgement on the programme and an invite to the wrap party!
£60 will get you four tickets to the show plus an autographed programme, acknowledgement on the programme and an invite to the wrap party!
What We Need & What You Get
- Funding will contribute towards paying the artists and technician fees, theatre hire, costumes and publicity.
- Depending on the level of donations you will receive theatre tickets to the show, signed programme and an invite to the wrap party.
The Impact
Your contribution will help us start the project and enable us to go into production.
- The story of the strike is one that is still relevant today. Exploited female workers organised to take on the bosses. Following their victory unskilled and semi-skilled workers became unionised.
