We design and build compelling products that simplify superlative audio experiences.  We're always working on something new.  And now it's time to introduce our latest creation.

Silicon is stunningly small, deceivingly simple, deceptively powerful.  Just two connectors: USB C for your host, and a 3.5mm TRS for your headphones.  No buttons, switches, knobs or lights.  All in a tiny aluminum tube just over an inch long, and less than half an inch wide:

So small, a AA battery is about 3 times the size of Silicon. And the AA battery weighs 6 times as much.  In fact, Silicon is so small, it has a footprint just 42% of that of a dime.  Its petite size belies the giant performance inside.

Silicon works with pretty much anything.  We've tested Silicon with all OSes listed below without issue.  The supplied Type C to Lightning and Type C to Type A adapters ensure operation with just about any digital source on the market.

Silicon is already garnering industry awards, just for the pre-release versions we've leaked out.  Peak audio performance with true plug and play operation in a package smaller than most 3.5mm plugs on headphones.  Silicon redefines what a high power, high resolution portable audio DAC should be.

Silicon performs.  Stupendously so.  Pretty much any high resolution audio file will play back natively on Silicon. 

Our custom designed front-end IC acts as a USB 2.0 (UAC1.0/2.0 compliant) to I²S stereo converter.  This IC tells the host to hand over the audio, manages all the USB protocols, and converts the audio stream to an industry-standard I²S (Inter IC Sound) protocol to deliver to the DAC.

The DAC is no slouch.  We turned to Asahi Kasei (AKM) for the DAC.  AKM is legendary for making the best Digital to Analog Converters in the audio business, and are found in not just top-end consumer gear, but recording studio consoles, converters, and tools.  For Silicon, we chose the AK4377ECB DAC.  This DAC handles up to 32 bit, 768 kHz and DSD256 audio formats natively - no downscaling.  Perfect for use with our own USB front end.

The output of the DAC is directly coupled to the input of a Semtech RT6863 high power amplifier.  Because of the low offset voltage of the 6863, we also directly couple the audio to your headphones.  There are no bass-killing capacitors on the inputs OR outputs of the 6863, resulting in performance to DC.  And with 150+ mW continuous output per channel capability, the 6863 drives any headphone without issue.

Seven power supplies feed all the electronics.  Discrete power supplies for analog and digital components.  Even fully balanced ±5.4V DC rails for the 6863 so it has a true center ground operation.  Clean, abundant power to feed your headphones.

The result?  True audiophile performance that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

After all, the product is conceived, proven out, prototyped, tooled, and ready for production.  Why do an Indiegogo campaign at all? 

It's simple.  Crowdfunding allows us to best launch Silicon.  There are many benefits to an Indiegogo campaign:

1. Quantity.  We know how many to make on the initial run.  We won't make too many; or worse, too few.  Getting initial production quantities right up-front is crucial to the launch of a new product.  We don't like problems - neither do you.  Crowdfunding removes that concern.
    
2. Exposure.  We get exposure to new friends.  People who love music, but may never have heard of Periodic Audio.  Music lovers are always looking for new, breakthrough gear; Indiegogo is a great platform for doing just that.
    
3. Rewards.  We can reward early adopters in a fair, easy-to-understand manner.  Early adopters will benefit from special perks like lower prices, bundles, and more.  It's a great way to say "Thank You" to our friends.

When Will We Deliver?

We've been at this for a while.  We know what we're doing - and what it takes to finish off a product.  Collectively, Periodic Audio's team has launched over 200 consumer electronics products, including the Dolby Dimension headphones, SONOS speakers (6 different models), Blue headphones and microphones (8 models), Snap's AR Spectacles, dozens of studio monitors, and dozens more audio and electronics products.

When we say we'll deliver on a given date - we mean it.

The target is delivery in March 2024.  What can stop this?  Supply chain disruption, including parts availability.  We track this 3 times a week, and right now production is slated for the last 2 weeks of February, meaning delivery throughout March.  If there are any changes to the timeline, all backers will be the second to know (we'll be the first).

Are there risks?

Sure.  With any campaign there are risks.  There is a slight chance we might not hit our delivery date.  The world could enter another pandemic or worldwide crisis that causes a delay.  AKM could have their factory burn down (don't laugh - it happened in 2020 and set AKM's production back a few years).  

But we promise you this - for our friends and backers, we'll keep you updated with any news that could alter our plans.  We believe in transparency, and we'll share whatever we learn quickly and completely.

How about Periodic Audio as a whole?  Never heard of us?  We've been around since 2016.  We have a nice little engineering and production facility here in Las Vegas (shoot us an e-mail and we can schedule a visit - even let you make your own pair of headphones).  We work Monday through Friday, we have a lab with a test chamber, racks of gear, and lots of professional tools.  We even own our own forklift.  

In other words, we're stable.  We're a solid commodity.  And because of our reliable deliveries and deep experiences, we provide extensive services to Fortune 500 companies nearly every day.
