Our Mission
To enrich and inspire our community by sharing comics and tabletop games in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
A Space for Everyone
Superscript will provide Lakewood, Ohio with a comprehensive one-stop-shop for comics and tabletop games. Our comic inventory includes weekly comics, trade paperbacks, graphic novels, manga, and selections for kids and young adults. Our game catalog is similarly expansive, feature tabletop board games, roleplaying games, collectible card games, and miniatures games.
The store's comfortable atmosphere will encourage guests to flip through comics, play games, and engage with one another. Our Pull Box subscription, pre-order services, and Superscript XP loyalty program will ensure that every customer is given five-star treatment.
In-store events will help us build a community and foster customer agency. Superscript will tailor events to all ages and levels of product familiarity, from organized play tournaments to casual game mixers and creative workshops. Special focus will be made to engage often-marginalized groups such as women, people of color, and members of the LGBT+ community.
Meet the Team
Elliott is a Project Manager and former high school English teacher, whose first job was working at his childhood comic book store. Elliott has helped establish a sturdy framework for Superscript, so that the business may succeed, adapt, and grow.
Elliott has a life-long love of science fiction comics, Star Trek and literary genre fiction. His favorite comics are Transmetropolitan, Bone, Preacher and that one issue of Grant Morison's New X-Men where Beak talks about being straight-edge and listening to minor threat.
When it comes to games, Elliott is a sucker for competitive games that are easy to learn and difficult to master, especially ones that involve trying to see the game from your opponents’ perspective –or as he often says, “Anything that’s Rock, Paper, Scissors with an execution barrier.” He also loves games that involve cooperative storytelling. Elliott has been running tabletop RPGs and building homebrew settings since he was fifteen and will gladly play any game that gives him an excuse to paint some miniatures.
Nick has nearly 20 years of retail experience-- from shipping and receiving, to merchandising, to customer service-- and has a knack for visual marketing and interior design. Nick is excited to apply this knowledge to a passion project like Superscript.

When it comes to comics, Nick has a soft spot for Swamp Thing and The Hulk (something about those big angry green dudes.) They also enjoy poetic comics, especially those that dabble in the surreal or absurd, whether the pages are verbose or visually-driven. They enjoy games with inventive themes, particularly when paired with a strong connection to gameplay mechanics – such as Spirit Island and Root. Theme aside, Nick will always seek out worker-placement and card-drafting games, collaborative storytelling RPGs, and the latest KeyForge set.
Christine is an auditor at a local private company and has a background in higher education, non-profit management, and Chemistry. From a young age, Christine has loved mystery stories and her comic book favorites including The Long Halloween (Batman) and Gideon Falls, reflect that lifelong interest. She is also a fan of feminist and queer comics. Christine’s favorite games are cooperative in nature because she enjoys working with her friends to meet a goal or to defeat a common enemy. Roleplaying games and cooperative board games are her game night favorites. She awards bonus points to any game that can combine her love of mysteries with the cooperative format like Beyond Baker Street.

The funds raised by this campaign will help us complete renovations and build fixtures for a comfortable and accessible storefront.
Of our $8,000 goal, we’ve budgeted $6,500 for the renovations – which includes laminate wood floor coverings throughout the entire store, paint and trim on all interior walls, acoustic ceiling tiles, and completing the finishing touches on our ADA-compliant restroom. This budget includes the materials, labor costs of local contractors, and permit fees required by the city of Lakewood.
The remaining $1,500 of our crowd-funding goal will be used to build and install fixtures – including comic book display racks, gaming tables, and cozy seating.
