ABOUT SLIFF.
The Sierra Leone International Film Festival (SLIFF) is a year-round collaborative film exploration dedicated to social and economic development through cinema, filmmaking, education and tourism. The annual six-day film festival and ongoing educational programs create a platform for audiences to rejoice in the culture and communities of Sierra Leone (Salone) as they experience exciting new films made in country and from around the world.
In 2012, we launched the 1st Edition of SLIFF and we hit some major milestones….
- 1,700 SLIFF Attendees
- 41 Films Shown, Including Shorts, Features & Documentaries
- 100+ Films Submitted, Over 50 from Sierra Leone & 50 International
- Film Screenings at 6 Freetown locations and John Obey Beach
- Over 20 Media Mentions, in International Media and in Sierra Leone
With the tremendous success of SLIFF 1, we look forward to making this edition more IMPACTFUL by....
Increasing national and international attendance, garnering more media exposure for filmmakers from Sierra Leone, opening a SLIFF Filmmakers Resource Library in partnership with the American Embassy, creating a filmmaker directory for the country and offering online and the first post-festival SLIFF TOURpass—an 8-day tour tracing the history of Sierra Leone around the country with community film screenings in all the villages we visit! In addition to providing exposure and a platform to highlight Sierra Leone's booming film industry, we'll also be screening some of the top international films of the year along side Sierra Leone's best, during the second edition of SLIFF!
WHAT WE NEED NOW.
As the 2013 festival quickly approaches April 13-18, 2013, we need to raise $5,000 to cover crucial SLIFF operating expenses. Funds raised will go towards screening costs, transportation and paying our amazing and dedicated local staff!!! And any amount we can raise above the goal will be used to support the SLIFF Filmmakers Resource Library, which will be housed in the American Embassy until a sustainable local location is a viable option. This library will be full of past SLIFF films, filmmaking textbooks, classic films and assistance for filmmakers applying to international programs and festivals.
YOUR IMPACT.
The war that raged in Sierra Leone for more than eleven years was a devastating conflict. When the peace agreement was signed in 2002, rebels turned in their guns and the country began the healing and forgiving. Today the many religions and tribes of Sierra Leone live together in peace, but Sierra Leone is still fighting to change these perceptions and foster growth in budding industries like film and tourism! SLIFF developed as an initiative driven by the local film community to show another side of Salone. The festival will contribute to Salone's continuing development and re-branding through the filmmaking industries, employment, local goods and services, positive media exposure, tourism and via its educational development programs.
