SWITCH 2015 (April 2nd, 19:30u, Lucent Dans Theater Den Haag)
Switch is an annual dance performance organized, created and performed by the dancers of the internationally renowned Nederlands Dans Theater.
2015 is the 27th anniversary of this special event! All revenue from the evening goes to a charity of the dancers choice (The Switch Project), whist showcasing emerging choreographers from NDT. Switch has been the platform where many of the choreographers at NDT made their first steps into choreography. By taking the helm and organizing this benefit dance performance, the NDT dancers are presented with opportunities to participate in artistic, social and administrative responsibilities such as design, photography, budgeting, advertising, etc. These opportunities provide an outlet for the dancers to explore and develop valuable new skills.
Here's how it works: The dancers organize everything, including finding sponsors to pay for the costs of Switch. Dancers from NDT create new works to be performed. All revenue from Switch goes to fund the Switch Project.
THE SWITCH PROJECT
Each year, the dancers choose an organization to partner with for The Switch Project.
All proceeds from Switch go directly to the partner organization. Additionally, a selection of dancers will be sent to work directly with the organization to volunteer their time and energy to the cause, as well as connecting with the chosen organization in ways related to art and dance. The Switch Project utilizes the unique skill set of the NDT dancers whilst encouraging personal development and facilitating meaningful collaborations.
The Switch Project 2015 beneficiary is Relevé AC in Mexico. Principle dancer Isaac Hernández of Het National Ballet and his brother Esteban, dancer at San Francisco Ballet were taught ballet by their father Hector Hernández. The Hernández family has undertaken huge social initiatives in Mexico to bring the art form of dance to those living at the bottom of the social ladder, not only educating them in dance but also giving them a safe place to learn and grow from children into young adults. It is the philosophy of Isaac that ‘Arts and humanity play a very important role in the welfare of society’. We are thrilled to be committing our energies towards such an important cause, and one that is so close to all of us at NDT.
FUNDRAISING GOALS
Putting on an event of this scale is not an easy task, and so we need help with raising the capital to create new important dance works while raising funds to support a great cause. We hope you’ll consider making a donation to Switch '15. Your Indiegogo donation will go directly to Relevé AC!
