Campaign has ended, but I will continue to post updates for all who supported the making of this album, and final perks will be mailed with CDs, when the album is released.

The last few years have caused me to reflect deeply on why doing this work and this album is so important which I'll get to in a moment.

As many of you know, I've been singing since I was a child, and writing songs, recording, and touring for the last 10+ years. Over the course of my career so far I've experienced some incredible highs: I was the first artist to build a global following on YouTube, I consequently signed deals with Universal Music Publishing Group and Island Records, I played in front of 80,000 people at Wembley Stadium in London, I toured all over the UK, Europe, and the US, and music took me to India, South Africa, South America, and Russia...it's been an incredible ride so far!  

I've also experienced some pretty intense lows in my life and career. I took a break, during which I asked myself if I still loved making music. I'd worked so hard at it for so many years, and I no longer knew if I loved making music or was just doing it because it was familiar, I didn't want to "give up," I felt pressure to succeed, etc. I needed to find the answer to that very important question in order to move forward with my life, one way or another.

In my time away from recording and touring, I discovered the answer was a resounding YES to music. My passion for creating songs and sharing my music with the world has been renewed, and my purpose feels stronger and clearer than ever before. I had to overcome a lot in order to give myself permission to move forward on this path. When I left my record label several years ago, people told me all kinds of paralyzing statements -- "It's too late to start over,"  "You've blown your one shot" etc. I needed to realize the truth in order to overcome my fear and fulfill my purpose. 

I understand now there is no such thing as "one shot," and there's no way to "blow it." Life is full of opportunity for as long as we want it to be. I want this album and the relaunch of my career to illustrate the infinite possibilities of life, when we believe in ourselves and refuse to give up.

I also discovered that recording an album and re-launching my own career is no longer enough to satisfy my personal goals at this point in my life, so I came up with the following idea: This campaign will raise ONE MILLION DOLLARS for charity. When we reach $100K in pledges towards my new album, a group of philanthropists (approx. 10) have EACH agreed to MATCH that $100K with $100K donated to charity.  So that's a cool ONE MILLION DOLLARS for charity if/when we reach $100K. Your $50 pledge towards my album becomes $500 for charity. Your $100 pledge becomes $1,000. It's the most ambitious goal I've ever set for myself, and I couldn't be more excited. (And a little scared, but mostly excited!)

Impact

My greatest goal in re-launching my own career is to prove to myself and others that anything is possible, and it's never too late to start again. I wish to lead by example with the intention of empowering so many other people who might be struggling with similarly limiting beliefs about themselves and what they can create. 

And of course, all of us helping to raise $1MM for charity is also pretty cool.                                                                     

Budget

In the interest of transparency, I present my budget: 

So our goal levels are as follows: $35k, $50k, $75k, $100k, $125k, $150k. As you can see, I've accounted for several different budgetary scenarios, with the full intention of reaching the highest goal.                                                                                                                    

Stretch Goals

Thanks to all of YOU, we reached the 1st Stretch Goal of $50k!!!

Reaching the $50K stretch goal leaves us with a recording budget of around $25K, and this means additional days in a world-class studio, taking our time to make sure we capture the very best performances, bringing in the best musicians I know, who are significantly more expensive (but totally worth it!!!), and then hiring a world-class mix engineer to make everything sound SO SWEET. 

And I know this is long-winded, but I feel so passionate about it, and I wanted to explain it to you so you understand exactly why I'm pushing to reach this $50k stretch goal, and exactly where your money is going. 

I hope it all makes sense. I am 100% committed to creating the most beautiful music I am capable of creating, for YOU. Because you deserve nothing less from me.

STRETCH GOAL #2 is $75,000: This level gets us closer to the scenario I envision when I think about recording this album. No corners will be cut in the studio, I'll be able to hire a top notch mixing engineer and go to my favorite mastering house. I'll hire a great designer to help create the album art, and I'll have a small promotional budget to help get the word out about the album. 

 

                            

STRETCH GOAL #3 is $100,000: This is the level at which 10 donors will match the $100,000 we've raised with a donation to charity, resulting in charitable donations of ONE MILLION DOLLARS!!! And did someone say TOUR??? Once we reach this goal, I will be able to take this show on the road. I will plan a tour of North America and Europe and I will publicize the tour with an ambitious social media campaign. So basically, the album will sound better, we'll reach a wider audience, and I will come play all the new songs for you, live (and some of the old songs, too). There is also the not-so-small detail of $1MM going to charity!!! 

                               

STRETCH GOAL #4 is $125,000: Now we're able to operate like a record label, which is my ultimate goal! I'll hire a top PR firm to promote the ALBUM and the TOUR. I'll be able to make 2-3 more videos with some of the most talented directors I know, create bad-ass merchandise to offer on tour, and work with some of the best people in the industry to get this album out to as many people as possible! Basically, I'll be able to maintain control over my career and do more for myself, vs. signing with a distribution company (aka record label). I will be in the position to either be my own label, or build up such a strong base that I can make an artist-friendly deal with the right company! 

                               

STRETCH GOAL #5 is $150,000: This is the dream scenario. My ultimate goal. All of the above, plus RADIO PROMO! We've got the best sounding album ever, a kick-ass tour, promotional support from a team of experts, $1MM is going to charity, thanks to YOU, and now radio....The first single from the album will be "Help You Fly," and I would love to have a shot at getting it out to the world over the airwaves. I'll be able to hire someone to help make that happen, just like a record label would do.

Risks 

The biggest risk is that I don't reach the goals I've set for myself, which is a fear-based thought and not something I tend to spend a lot of time thinking about. I'll do my very best to make this happen, and then I'll let go and have faith that it will all come together exactly as it should. 

(And if, for some reason, we do not reach the initial goal, you will not be charged for your Rewards, there will be no album, and we'll go back to business as usual. But between you and me, that ain't gonna happen!)
