We're a group of engineers, educators, and published researchers. Over the last year, we've helped high schoolers and middle schoolers in New York City bring to life previously abstract concepts like algebra, capacitance in a circuit, and gravity. We wanted them to take this abstract material and turn it into something that they could interact with and form lasting attitudes about. We did this by helping them apply what they had learned to build projects like robots, quadcopters, water purifiers, hovercrafts, and more.

However, we quickly realized that in a world being propelled by technology and engineering, a lot of schools and communities across the country lacked the necessary resources to keep up.

With budget cuts and dwindling space and resources becoming common place, achieving a means of sustaining hands-on learning and making are harder and harder to come by.

The Solution

What's in it?

Tesla Truck is a cutting-edge, prototyping, machine, metal, and electronics shop with CAD stations, 3D printers, a laser cutter, a CNC plasma cutter, a CNC router, a CNC mill & lathe, oscilloscopes, soldering irons, a trove of hand tools, and more. 

What does it do?

The Tesla Truck team will facilitate:

hands-on classes and workshops on a variety of STEM topics ranging from circuit building, metal working, programming, CAD, physical computing, 3D printing, robotics and more at schools, universities, libraries and even a street corner or a park near you

a pop-up maker space anywhere and anytime, with open sessions where members can jump on board Tesla Truck and use its facilities to bring their ideas to life 

Imagine spending a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon learning how to precisely cut 1/4'' steel with our CNC Plasma cutter, or 25 students spending an entire semester learning how to build robots from scratch, all on one mobile platform: that's Tesla Truck's vision.

How much?

In order to build and equip Tesla Truck with the necessary tools and facilities to make it effective and self-sustaining, we need $62,800.00 to get it up and running. 

What we've done

We are actively participating in the CUNY Start-up Incubator and Accelerator.

We have been granted a contract from the New York City Department of Education to be able to offer its over 1700 schools our programs

What we need

We've raised $38,500 and still need $24,300 to get us all the way to the $62,800 we need to launch our first truck.
