THE STORY

Oklahoma, 1887. Orphaned by an event he can’t remember 15 years prior, David is a gunslinger for a successful traveling roadshow, performing tricks with his six-shooter for cheering crowds all over the territory. Despite his talent, David’s life as a showman leaves him hollow — his dreams are haunted by a woman who holds the secret to his abandonment as a child. While traveling to his next show, David uncovers a strangely familiar place, one that brings back fractured memories of his youth that force him to confront the truth — and the trauma — behind his abandonment as a child.

THE VISION

Growing up, I was always enthralled by the ability of historical films to transport me, temporarily, to the past. At the same time, I was equally struck by the differences between classic Westerns and the realities of the history of my home state. My interest in the genre was challenged when I realized that the history of Oklahoma was not nearly as heroic as the those Westerns made it out to be. I eventually learned, however, that these myths and legends were every bit a part of the same history they seemed to rewrite. In That Moment Lost, I depict the dichotomy of myth versus history through the film’s protagonist, David. A Wild West Show gunslinger, David is a man who came of age through these myths, yet this identity stands to be challenged by his brutal history.

THE TEAM

CARTER JONES, Writer-Director

Carter Jones is a graduate of the NYU Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Film Production and Cinema Studies. During his time at NYU, Carter developed his skills in writing, directing, and cinematography as a production student on a variety of short films, while balancing an academic interest in the medium pursued in the Cinema Studies department. Carter has worked over 1500 hours on studio sets in the grip department on productions such as Mozart in the Jungle, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Quantico. Outside of watching and making movies, Carter enjoys watching the Oklahoma City Thunder, learning about American history, and listening to live music. Carter is thrilled to bring a long time passion project across the finish line with his fantastic collaborators, and he appreciates all contributions to the film in any size!

ARMAAN VIRANI, Director of Photography/Producer

Armaan is a 2015 graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts with a keen eye for visual storytelling. After spending the last four years honing his craft on a variety of short films, commercials, music videos and TV pilots, he has become one of the most sought after cinematographers and camera assistants in the NYC indie community. As a cinematographer with experience in producing, Armaan brings unparalleled devotion and enthusiasm to all his projects, working closely with each department to ensure that style and substance come together to create the best film possible. Outside of his film work, Armaan enjoys playing the drums, reading sci-fi literature, and astrophysics.

LAUREN FLORES, Production Designer

Lauren Flores is a freelance production designer based in NYC. Between her work in commercial and narrative filmmaking, she’s honed her ability to explore thematic storytelling while simultaneously overseeing the practicalities of the art department. She’s helmed projects ranging from small set dressing jobs to films with multiple set constructions, balancing budget and vision. In her free time, Lauren applies her skills to cosplay and prop making, creating a viral sensation out of her little brother when she transformed him into a comic-accurate "Robin."

GREG LOFTUS, Producer/1st Assistant Director

Greg is a 2016 graduate of the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where he won the Cohen Fund Student Producer's Award, the Todd Martin Film Production Award, and was a finalist on the inaugural "Purple List" for Undergraduate Feature Screenwriting. He has worked thousands of hours on a variety of short films, commercials, and music videos as a freelance Producer, Assistant Director, Grip, Camera Assistant, and Production Assistant, and has made content with companies like Netflix, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Forbes Magazine, and NBCUniversal in a variety of internship and production positions. When not eating, sleeping and breathing movies, he enjoys baking, landscape photography, and visiting Block Island. Greg is beyond excited to continue his collaboration with Carter and the outstanding crew of TML to bring this exciting, ambitious western to the screen!

CARLY GANZ, Producer

Carly is a graduate of NYU Tisch, where she spent her time focusing on producing and production design. She has worked as a freelance producer for several years on a variety of short films and commercials, and recently worked in the construction department on the 5th season of Orange is the New Black. For Carly, working with Carter and this team to bring such an incredible story to life in Oklahoma is the perfect combination of collaboration and creativity, and the enthusiasm surrounding this project is what drives her to bring That Moment Lost to its full fruition.

WHERE YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS GO

Making movies is an expensive, complex process with a wide array of moving parts. Your contribution to That Moment Lost will go toward these production elements:

Equipment

To give the film an authentic “Western” feel, we’re shooting on actual film stock as all the classics did, but we’re taking it one step further: shooting scenes set in 1887 on 35mm stock, and flashbacks in 1872 on 16mm stock. This means we have two camera packages with a variety of accessories to make the filming experience efficient and safe. Additionally, the bulk of our filming takes place outside, so we’ll need to rent top-notch lighting and sound equipment, power generators, high-powered lights, safety rigging equipment, and walkie-talkies for the crew. By contributing to our campaign, you can provide THAT MOMENT LOST’s crew with the highest quality tools to bring the story to life!

Production Design

Building a traveling wild-west carnival show; costuming cowboys and bandits; maintaining period-specific prop weapons; designing and constructing an authentic 1870s sod house. To make THAT MOMENT LOST feel authentic and immersive, our art team has to create these physical elements almost entirely from scratch. Your contributions will go a long way to helping them do just that!

Transportation

In addition to flying our 25 person cast & crew from New York City to Duncan, we’ll also be trucking our equipment out as well. Once on location, we’ll be shooting all over a 4300 acre ranch, so we’ll need multiple trucks and vans to safely transport cast, crew, equipment, props, and set pieces to and from our various locations. A contribution will send our team and our tools to and from location safely and comfortably!

Meals & Accommodations

Food, water and basic production accommodations are essential to maintaining the safety and well-being of our cast and crew during our rigorous shoot. Donating to the campaign will ensure that our cast and crew are properly nourished as they work hard to make THAT MOMENT LOST an immersive cinematic experience!

THANK YOU!

To express our sincere appreciation and gratitude, we have created rewards for your contributions to the film. If you can’t donate, just spreading the word and sharing this page are incredibly helpful!

Thank you so much for taking the time to check out the campaign and help us bring THAT MOMENT LOST to the screen. We can’t wait to share the finished film with you!
