We are living in the exciting booming of wireless technological world where the 5th Generation Cellular Mobile Communications (5G), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Internet of Things (IoT) are becoming more prominent in our everyday life. And Education is important for people of all ages to learn more about the new technologies, especially for the 5G mmWave Sensor; and we are attacking this issue by taking out the mmWave complexity away from the users, and offering a simple-to-use BATMAN BM101 mmWave Sensor Solution Evaluation Kit (the Batman Kit) with Integrated Hardware & Software Solution that can be experimented and applied to various applications.
Where the Batman Kit is for:
Technologically inclined engineering professors & students, scientists, electronics hardware & software engineers, automotive engineers and technologists, electronics hobbyists, etc.
For a Novice, the user may follow the included sample App via Bluetooth wireless connectivity to iPhone/iPad to gain mmWave Sensor’s practical experience.
For an Intermediate User, the user may apply the Batman Kit for the Target Application by connecting the Kit to a Raspberry Pi computer, and designing Python software based on the included SDK.
For an Advanced User, the user may utilize The Batman Kit as mmWave Sensor End Device for AI+IoT application with Deep Learning
And that a Batman Kit package includes:
A Small & Compact application dedicated mmWave Sensor Module based on Texas Instruments (TI) IWR1642 76GHz~81GHz mmWave ASIC , with pin-connection for UART communication.
A Raspberry Pi-Hat Board with optional JBT24M Bluetooth Module (included for the backers of this Indiegogo Campaign!); and that this Hat Board can also work independently of a Raspberry Pi Computer for connecting the mmWave Sensor Module to other MCU based Hardware Board such as an Arduino Board, etc.
A Python SDK on GitHub available for developing software on Raspberry Pi and other computers, which is a perfect companion for AI + IoT Integration Implementation
While, we are offering three different “flavors” of mmWave Sensor Module with pre-programmed Firmware dedicated to the given evaluation application-flavor of your choice:
The First Module is built-in with Vital Signs Detection Firmware; for a contactless and wearableless and 30cm ~ 90cm (about 1~3 feet) distance detection of Vital Signs (Heartbeat Rate & Respiration Rate) of a person, a pet, or an animal.
The Second Module is built-in with People Movement Behavior Trigger Firmware; for detecting People movement in a 4 x 4 meter or 16 meter square area (or about 172 square feet), and with software that could set virtual geo-fence(s) to trigger alert or action when People are moving into the geo-fence(s).
The Third Module is built-in with High Accuracy Measurement Firmware; for measuring object distance from the mmWave Sensor Module with the range of 30cm ~ 3meters (about 1~10 feet) with millimeter resolution.

Note: each of the Batman Kit comes with ONLY ONE mmWave Sensor Module of the dedicated application flavor.

On hardware technical side, the Batman Kit’s mmWave Sensor Module is based on state of the art Texas Instruments IWR1642 Single Chip 76GHz ~ 81GHz ASIC with built-in RF Front End having two Transmission and four Receiving Antennae, along with the built-in C674x DSP for high performance FMCW Signal Processing, and also with the built-in ARM Cortex R4F Microcontroller for Configuration, Control, and Calibration; while we provide a direct Raspberry Pi pin-connectivity via our Raspberry Pi-Hat Board (which you may also use it to connect to Arduino or other MCU Boards with physical wiring) for UART communication on interface side.
On Software side, the Batman Kit’s mmWave Sensor Firmware facilitates the complex higher physics and higher mathematics raw data analysis (with real-time Fast Fourier Transform, FFT) with robust algorithms that transform the massive & complicated real-time raw data into easy to understand parameter values such as Range, Angle, and Velocity (or Distance, Heartbeat & Respiration Rate pending Firmware programmed) as the output of mmWave Sensor, which will be pipelined as the input for user’s application (via UART communication). In addition, the Batman Kit includes iOS and Python Open Source SDK that allow the user to implement faster on programming the corresponding software on iPhone/iPad and/or Raspberry Pi computer for Vital Signs Detection, People Movement Behavior Trigger, or High Accuracy Measurement.
The Python SDK can accept either mmWave Sensor’s Raw-Data or Key-Data from Firmware on TI IWR1642 (via UART Tx/Rx); while the iOS SDK can only accept Key Data from Firmware on TI IWR1642 ASIC (via Bluetooth). The Python SDK with Raw-Data provides an abundant high speed mmWave raw sensing data that allows the user to work on post processing for an application on a Raspberry Pi Computer (which is a very popular programmable computer platform for teachers and students, that has sold over 23Million units in about 6-years span to end of year 2018; and with tens of thousands young people, teachers, and hobbyists alike engaging in programming and learning digital skills). And the Key-Data for both Python SDK and iOS SDK provides an easy to understand with simplified mmWave sensing data for direct output to a Raspberry Pi Computer or an iPhone/iPad; which will serve as a quick introduction to mmWave Sensor world for those without getting deeply into programming.
In addition, the Batman Kit is a perfect companion for AI+IoT integration implementation. The Batman Kit can be used as an IoT Sensor End Device, that collects Sensor parameter values to Cloud for Sensor info sharing & analysis. Moreover, the collected Sensor data can be aggregated to become Big Data suitable for AI/Machine Learning/Deep Learning for further application analysis; and for applications such as: Faulty Motor Vibration Symptom Diagnosis & Categorization for Industrial and Automotive applications, Vital Signs’ Emergency Level Categorization for Healthcare applications, Gesture Type Identification & Categorization for Business and Consumer applications, Object & Obstacle Type Identification & Categorization for various Education, Engineering, and Science applications, etc.

Project Management Timeline
We have completed all of our critical milestones from Concept, to Prototype, and now started mass production stage; where we have finished the hardware board designs for the product launch, and have finished on the fine-tuning of Firmware and SDK for the first Evaluation Kit release. We are ready launching this campaign where we have reliably accomplished the design & production considerations while the Evaluation Kit is more matured with stable quality. And we have made quite a few breakthrough improvements for the Kit’s functionality with simplicity in mind for both Hardware and software SDK, so to make the overall solution simple to use. We have started for the shipment in the first week of April 2019.

The first stage of production is with PCBA SMT process; where we starts with Solder Paste printing of PCB Board, then with SMT Pick & Place of the components onto the PCB Board, then with Reflow-Oven for soldering components onto PCBA, and then go through the quality inspection.
The second stage of production is with Wave Solder of connection-pins, along with inspection and touch-up of component soldering for both mmWave Module Board and the HAT Board.
The final stage of production is with the Batman Kit packaged in carton box, ready for shipment.
