Hello there! We are a crew of students raising funds towards our final-year film - The Bloke in the Boot. It is a Comedy Short Film that we are very passionate about and highly dedicated towards getting made.
The film centres on Mogg & Gaps, a pair of Northern City Lads who have to work together to dispose of their driving examiner's body... and NOTHING goes to plan.
We are looking for crowdfunding to achieve something ambitious and vital for the film: filming across the beautiful countryside and landscapes of Wales.
We have many exciting challenges for all departments working on this film. Securing this budget will push us down the road to making this vision come to life, and creating a project that we can all be very proud of, submitting to film, arts and comedy festivals and competitions in the future.
Thank you for being interested in our project! We hope you can support it in any way possible. Please consider sharing our page with some friends :)
Well, here's our synopsis:
Desperate city boy MOGG is confident he will pass his driving test, but he’s just failed for reckless driving. Out of rage, and confusion, he bashes his EXAMINER over the head. Thinking he’s dead, Mogg panics, stuffs The Bloke in the Boot, and drives over to his best friend GAPS’ house. So that Mogg doesn’t end up burying the body next to his Mum’s rhubarb, Gaps offers to go with him to hide the corpse elsewhere.
The pair set off, aiming for somewhere remote and 'green-looking' on the map. After getting a bit lost, they ask a LADY at the roadside for directions, who accidentally directs them to a Car Boot Sale. Scared their boot will be opened, Mogg and Gaps hurry off, getting even more lost in the countryside in the process. They find access to a seemingly empty field, only to discover a HITWOMAN in a similarly sticky situation to themselves. This so-called professional hitwoman trips over, shooting themselves, leaving Mogg and Gaps with a case full of blood money.
The pair persevere and use the money to buy new tools. Trying to cut up the examiner, Mogg slices open Gaps' finger. Tired and agitated, Gaps complains that Mogg has made him miss dinner, and wants to go home. But Mogg can’t have this, he needs to get the job done, and so he drives off- leaving Gaps alone in the hills. A long, miserable night ensues...
Mogg is awoken by the coastline; an OFFICER tapping the windshield. Assuming he's been nicked, he opens the boot to reveal… nothing! The Bloke in the Boot has disappeared! The Officer hands him a ticket and leaves, bearing 'Parking Enforcer' on their back.
Gaps, soaking wet, appears behind Mogg, after failing to swim back. Mogg apologises for his disloyalty, and so they share a rhubarb crumble by the beach. Gaps lets slip that the body fell out of the boot last night. Reunited, and assuming the problem has resolved itself, they drive home… only to come across a rather annoyed Examiner, standing half-naked in the middle of the road. Mogg exits and presents the case of money, desperate for forgiveness.

We are mainly asking for the funds to cover our travels to Wales and to stay there throughout our filming week. We have 10 crew members, plus our small cast to consider. Our budget will also help yield access to various outstanding locations across the Welsh countryside and coastline.
Should we hit our initial goals, it will mean many amazing things for our film:
- We get to be more ambitious and experimental with our locations, props, costumes, etc
- We will be more confident in our vision, as hitting our funding goal and beyond will inspire us into making this film for you, because we'll know it's something people want to see
- We won't all go completely and utterly broke

We've got an excellent crew on board thus far, all of whom have worked hard on previous comedic projects!

Taylor Caddick: "Failing your driving test hurts. Really bad. At least, I never went to the lengths of our main character when I failed first time. Saying that, I probably wouldn't admit to that on here.
As a Northerner, I often feel my heritage is underrepresented in film – despite it being a generally well-humoured and self-deprecating place. The idea of basing a film on my own people, representing its lack of attention, whilst also keeping it light, is something I know would mean a lot to many people. The beauty of Wales is also sorely underrepresented in film, in similar ways to the North, and I am determined to change that.
With the country going through an intense economic stretch, I believe it is more important than ever to have films representing the misery of this world in a dry, self-insulting and classically-British manner. It appears that more and more is becoming materialistic and less attainable (for example, gaining a driving test now requires months of waiting). Representing a world that doesn’t have very much to begin with seems fitting - with everything becoming redundant once life and death are thrown into reality’s cocktail shaker."

Sid Maouche: "We really want to play on the visual comedy of the film through heavy visual storytelling through shot/reaction shot to the events of the film. There will be lots of wide exterior shots utilizing the beautiful picturesque landscapes of the location alongside helping to visually drive the film forward."

"I want to utilize a colder colour palette for the film as it ties into the more muted and subtle northern atmosphere/aesthetic surrounding the film. Plus provide a hopefully nice juxtaposition to the warmer comedic elements of the film which we want to enhance as much as possible."

"Being on location will require a lot of manipulation of the natural daylight and adaptability to the typical ever-changing British weather conditions. But I have full confidence in my gaffer and I being able to handle a range of light conditions through the extra kit we have sourced, alongside our shared experience in working in remote locations and having to adapt to changing lighting states due to weather."

Jacob Smith: "There are obviously risks when it comes to any film shoot, but we are confident that we are building the best possible team to overcome these challenges.
From a production standpoint, the most challenging part will be filming on-location in South Wales. We are going to location scout in December 2022 to build strong contacts with local people and landowners. We will also travel again in early 2023 to continue to develop our relationships. Considering our team is located in Southern England, we will mainly rely on digital communications with our contacts there until we film in March 2023, but we are confident and committed to these lanes of clear and honest communication staying active and frequent."

If you are unable to contribute to our project today, we completely understand. Times are tough. That's one of the core themes and messages powering our film. However, there are still a handful of ways that you could help us fulfil this project's goals:
The best way to help would be to share this project's page directly with a handful of close friends (or even all your friends!). Positive word-of-mouth can make or break a campaign, so even if you can contribute to us, sharing this page with a friend could make all the difference!
Another way to assist us would be to follow and share our social media accounts! (@blokeintheboot on Instagram and Twitter) Simply following is great, but resharing our posts to your followers is even better. This could be an Instagram Story or a Retweet on Twitter, or perhaps sharing this IndieGoGo Campaign onto your Facebook, LinkedIn or Reddit accounts! Every little helps and every share is so greatly appreciated!
