The Rundown: Hi there! We are a team of senior film students at John Paul The Great Catholic University in San Diego County. We are so excited to bring our senior thesis project, 'The Colorful Mind of Jayce dean Parker', to life! Any and all donations, no matter how small, will help us achieve our goal of telling this story using the skills we all have worked hard to accumulate over the part three years. We are more than thrilled to share this important and beautiful story with all of you!
Our Story
Jayce dean Parker is a 17-year-old high schooler who, despite his clear talent for art, can't help but feel he is nothing special, and has nothing to offer the world, resulting in a routine state of loneliness. The morning after being up late one night working on a beautiful portrait, he can't find it anywhere. That is, until he meets JD, who, little does he know, is his portrait come to life. Over just a few short days, JD opens Jayce's eyes to the world in a new and colorful way.
Behind the story
"The idea for this story was the result of a late-night drive with a close friend of mind during the early days of quarantine, when all anyone could really do, was drive around. It started as a mad idea, "What if a kid's drawing comes to life? Like that one episode of Sponge-bob?". I was like, why is my friend so weird... but then we kept talking, and ideas started to flow. Soon enough, I found myself feeling attached to this kid who gets to meet his own artwork. When I finally sat down to write the story, what came out was more than a portrait coming to life; it was a story about struggling with self-worth and self-love, and the journey of reaching those goals, and what it is exactly that helps people get there. It's a story that hits home for me, and I think- I hope- will hit home for many more."

Meet Carley Kormanis, our Writer and Director!
“I am a senior studying film production and directing. I love film because it’s an art medium that allows a message to reach a large group of people, and because of this it can be very impactful and powerful! This story hits home for me, in that it shows how the process of loving yourself is just that—a process.I’m excited to work on this project because I feel it’s a story that people will relate to, and it carries a message I feel that people need to hear!”

Meet our CO-PRODUCER, Paulina Barragan!
“I am a senior Communications Media student at John Paul The Great Catholic University. I love making films because its fuel for my soul. When making films, you are creating something from nothing, and creating something from nothing is also the definition of magic. And as a producer, I am so excited to help make this story come to life in the best way it can. I am excited about this project because it tells the story of a kid who reminds me a lot of myself! This is a fun and meaningful story i’m excited to tell and one i’m sure will resonate with many people who struggle with understanding who they are and seeing the potential and wonder they have inside of themselves. I hope that this story helps everyone realize the art and magic inside of themselves!”

Meet our CO-PRODUCER, Celeste Arteaga!
“I am a senior New Evangelization student at JPCatholic. I love making films because I believe storytelling is one of the most powerful forms of communication and can give life to both the storytellers and the audience. As a producer, I love helping my peers portray themselves in their art and seeing the impact their vulnerability can have on others. I am excited to see this project reflect the talent and pure love of art of our whole team, and I hope through this film people will be inspired to express their own colors with us!”

Meet our Director of Photography, Nathanael Pocon!
"I am a senior Communications Media student with an emphasis in production at JPCatholic. I love seeing stories come to life on the big screen, along with seeing different people experience the same film and have different reactions to what's shown to them. Whether that be a new experience or a feeling they have felt before in their own lives. Im really excited to be a part of a film that has two great characters in a story that many people have or will eventually experience in their lives, as well as being able to inspire others and help people find the JD within themselves!"
