What Are You
Supporting?
"The
Department of...Ed" is a web (turning TV) series about teachers at Centennial High in Brooklyn, NY
who have a bet that the newest addition to their staff, first year teacher
Lucas Edwards, will quit within the first few months of school. The overzealous vice principal, Dr.
Lucien Brevil, selects veteran teacher, Ed Goodman, to be Edwards’ mentor. The duo are polar opposites and end up
in ridiculous situations involving rowdy students, absurd parents and demanding
administrators. Unlike most shows
that highlight teachers saving the day, "The
Department of...Ed" focuses on the fact that all
teachers need saving at some point in one way or another.
What
We Need
The first episode of “The Department
of…Ed” web/TV series has been shot and we need YOUR help to shoot and edit the remaining
five.
We need a total of $25,150. Each episode costs approximately $5,000.
The money we raise will go to feeding our talented
cast and crew, paying for locations, filming equipment, props, etc. It will
also go to post-production expenses (i.e. editing, color
correction and music composition) as well as marketing and promotion expenses.
When we reach our goal (and we WILL thanks to you) and complete Season One, we
will shop the series to networks such as Netflix, Hulu, Comedy Central, etc.
Why Get Involved with this Project?
How often is it that by donating a few dollars you can spread laughter, provide teachers with resources for their classrooms, and see a cast of characters that takes you back to your time in high school? Unfortunately, we don't have Sarah McLachlan singing a tear-inducing song to persuade you to donate to our project, but by supporting "The Department of...Ed" you will be assisting in the production of a laugh-out-loud series while also putting smiles on a number of hard-working teachers faces.
Who are the creators, cast & crew?
The Department of...Ed's creator is former Brooklyn high school teacher turned filmmaker, Sabrina Thompson. She is also runner-up of the Emmy award-winning TV show, SURVIVOR, on CBS and co-founder of the non-profit, WEEN (Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network) based in NYC. Thompson combines all of her wild adventures and creativity as a teacher, storyteller and risk taker and joins forces with content creator/production accountant, O. Valerie Nicolas (Lionsgate, FX) to create this series about the untold life of teachers. Thompson's brilliant writers and former co-workers, David Martin & David Hobgood, link with Los Angeles based writer, Phnx, to craft witty and relatable scripts. They live the teacher experience and the material is gold! The actors range from first time actors to experienced actors who are regulars on primetime shows on NBC & ABC.
