WATCH THE TEASER!

Brief Synopsis

Grace Morgan, an aimless and despondent twenty-something, returns to her family's lake house with her mother Vivienne a decade after family tragedy. The property has been sold, and time is up for Grace to finally mourn and amend the guilt she has always harbored. As the two check the grounds and reminisce, Grace finds old ghosts that take her, and us, back to that fateful summer.

Why This Project?

On the surfaceThe DoubleWalker is a psychological thriller that follows one family's tragedy. However, underneath this story is a proof-of-concept for a feature that will be exploring broader themes of social relevance. Without giving too much away, these themes are closely connected to the very land this story takes place on. Our longterm goal is to expand this story into a feature, beginning development this year. With the feature it's our intention to slowly and organically build relationships with more Indigenous filmmakers, actors, and artists, on our journey to completion, especially the Penobscot people. They've been protecting this land (known today as Maine) for over 11,000 years. They are the true stewards. It's long overdue that the film industry shines light on Indigenous cultures both past and present, while making concerted efforts to hire Indigenous people in front of and behind the camera. That is our big, big dream for The DoubleWalker: to tell a compelling story while using our privilege to open as many doors for others as possible. YOU THE CONTRIBUTOR: THIS IS WHERE THE MAGNITUDE OF YOUR DONATION LIES.

Who Are We? Meet Some Of Our Crew & Cast!

  • Writer/Director/Producer/DP: Angela Sheil is a filmmaker and freelance gardener based out of Troy, NY, soon to be Brooklyn. She earned a fine arts degree in Motion Pictures & Television from the Academy of Art (San Francisco, CA). Prior to graduating Sheil began working in lighting and grip on Bay Area commercial shoots, shorts, and features. Originally from Saratoga Springs, NY, she returned east where she quickly formed personal and professional bonds with several artists in the Capital Region music scene. Ultimately connecting with Chromoscope Pictures on a music video in 2017, Sheil has since collaborated with them on a number of music videos and short films. With a genuine love for filmmaking, Sheil will lend a hand wherever needed, wearing many hats from set designer to writer, producer to gaffer, or actor to director. Anything to achieve the collective vision.
  • Cultural Educator/PA: Lilah Akins is a Penobscot-Jewish woman, filmmaker, and Gates Millennium Scholar. Prior to spending a decade on film sets of varying scopes and budgets, from Netflix to PBS; Lilah earned a double BA in Communication and Creative Media, and a third BA in Geography-Anthropology and Culture/Natural Heritage Management. She has served on several committees making strides to protect Indigenous interests, Wabanaki traditions and languages. Currently, Lilah works for Wabanaki Public Health and Wellness. These experiences along with Lilah's innate passion to protect the Dawnland, have enabled her to graciously lend her knowledge in guiding our crew geographically and culturally, while also offering her PA skills wherever needed.
  • GRACE (OUR LEAD): Freja Zeuthen is an award-winning actor and writer based in New York City. Born and raised in Denmark, she has been on stage or in front of the camera since the age of 10. Freja completed a two year study at the William Esper Studio, before earning her MFA in acting at The Old Vic in England in 2019. She currently studies under acclaimed actor, Deborah Hedwall. Freja's works span film, stage, and television. She can currently be seen on Netflix's Halston, as the real-life Halstonette, Chris Royer. On why Zeuthen joined The DoubleWalker team: "To work alongside a female writer/director with a beautiful, complex storyline, is a very exciting opportunity."
  • Key Grip/Gaffer: E.(Olly) Paulsen is a filmmaker based in Los Angeles. After studying film at San Francisco State University, Paulsen gained experience as a grip, electric, gaffer, and driver; on Bay Area commercial shoots, shorts, and features. Striving toward his childhood dream of working exclusively on feature films, Paulsen has been on the crews of Sundance Film Festival candidates: Sorry to Bother You (2018), The Last Man in San Francisco (2019), and 892 (2022). In 2019 after relocating to LA and garnering an IATSE membership, Paulsen joined notable projects: Ambulance (2022), From Scratch (2022), and the series Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022). Although Paulsen continues to bolster his resume, he identifies first and foremost as a friend, a film nerd, and a team player. The art of filmmaking continues to humble him, so he always makes time to assist friends on projects with whatever budget.
  • VIVIENNE (OUR CO-STAR): Kristin Johansen is a NYC-based actor who's performed in many plays from regional to Off Broadway, as well as film, TV, and voiceover. Recent credits include NBC Good Girls, 5 Teenagers Walk Into A Bar, Revolt, Duchess of York in Richard III, and Here To Recruit You, a musical about Harvey Milk. Kristin has also produced plays including Bright Ideas at the Drilling Company, and short films: Here's The Thing, and Stupid Things People Say When You Have Cancer.
  • Composer: Anthime Miller is a cellist and composer based in Brooklyn. They studied Early Music Performance at McGill University and Musical Theater at Circle in the Square Theater School. Anthime maintains a rigorous international creative presence and is the composer-in-residence for Circle Theater of New York for whom they scored The Mountain (New York 2014), which was nominated for Best Original Music at the 2015 New York Innovative Theater Awards. Currently, Anthime is also collaborating with fellow Glens Falls composer Catherine Reid on a piece about essential worker experiences throughout the pandemic to be premiered at The Hyde Museum this spring.
  • Craft Coordinator/PA: Katya Ekimoto has been cooking and baking in New York City for ten years. A self-taught cook, she started as a cake decorator before moving into baking, eventually managing the commissary kitchen for Milk Bar in Brooklyn. Most recently she ran the kitchen at a Bushwick pizzeria and wine bar, where the most rewarding part of her job was cooking family meal for the staff. It's this spirit of gathering around food that brought her to work craft services and catering on the set of The DoubleWalker for an amazing cast and crew.
  • Producer/1st AD: Gina De Nardo is a musician, actor, and graphic designer based out of Saratoga Springs, NY. She's worked in a number of mediums over the years but currently, her main focus is the band Pencildive for which she is the songwriter, guitarist, booker, and promoter. De Nardo and Sheil first collaborated in 2019, co-producing the music video "Cricket Man" (Pencildive) which was nominated for a Capital Region Thomas Edison Award. Gina's former work as an event planner has shaped her ability to keep focused eyes on the many moving parts of filmmaking. Her mission: to make art and help others do the same.
  • Producer/Camera Operator/2nd AD: Zach Durocher is a producer, photographer, and avid outdoorsman. He has produced short & feature length films, music videos, and commercial content with his production company Chromoscope Pictures. When not producing, he enjoys camera operating and collaborating with other filmmakers. In 2021 Zach earned the highly respected Adirondack 46er title. If he’s not on set, you can generally find him on the trails capturing landscapes, always a medium format camera in his pack.
  • 1st Assistant Camera/2nd Audio: Todd Ferguson is an Upstate native and creative, stemming from a long line of African American and Germanic lineage, as well as hard working, innovative artists. Ferguson studied at SUNY Oneonta where he built lifelong friendships along the way, who together, create thought-provoking and moving pictures of the world. In his free time Todd likes to slow down with intention; taking photos, thinking, resting, and spending life with his girlfriend. For Todd, collaborating in film (or any medium) is driven by purpose and joy. He is always here for the team and for the vision.
  • Set Photographer: Kiki Vassilakis is an award-winning artist based in Albany, NY with a strong focus towards music, portraits, and documentary photography. Having spent the last few years covering the vibrant music and art scene of the Capital Region, her tenacity and infectious positive attitude have earned her the honor of being one of the most sought out photographers in Upstate NY. It is precisely these qualities along with her years of experience that make her a gem to have on any project.
  • Audio Engineer: Ben Woodul is a musician and audio engineer based out of Troy, NY. Over the years he's played in bands, done field recording and boom work for several short films, and generally been stoked to lend a hand in whatever capacity keeps a creative project moving forward. He's happiest when part of a team working to realize an artistic vision and is excited to continue making cool stuff with talented people!

What We Need & What You Get

Our campaign aims to raise $13,875. Where will the funds go?

  • Studio Work: This includes paying our composer to write and record the score, as well as renting a studio space and hiring a sound engineer to produce, record, mix, and master the score. Additionally, this covers studio time with our editor and colorist to finalize details and reach picture lock. Cost: $3,625
  • Festivals: This section covers regional and festival submission fees, as well as mitigating travel expenses to attend and speak at festivals showcasing The DoubleWalkerCost: $3,500
  • Screenings: Funds will go toward securing venues in Albany, NY, Brooklyn, NY, and Portland, ME for private screening events and/or premieres (as well as promoting the events) throughout the Spring, Summer, and Autumn. Cost: $2,700
  • Fulfillment: A small portion of funds of every crowdfunding campaign are used to ensure the ordering and shipment of campaign perks. Wouldn't it be grand if perks just fell out of the sky? Cost: $850
  • Reimbursement: *In line with our team's values and beliefs, our BIPOC crew members received reparations during filming, while the majority of our non-BIPOC crew offered their services and talents pro-bono. Once the above-mentioned action items are fully funded, the remaining 23.1% of the campaign goal will go toward beginning to provide retroactive pay to our crew. It's out of the goodwill of both our BIPOC and non-BIPOC crew members that The DoubleWalker made it into "the can" at all. Any reparations or compensation received thus far have been a token of solidarity, and have not yet equaled the level of expertise and talent our loving crew provided. Please help us to reach and surpass our goal to bolster up our artists who deserve to continue to create. Cost: $3200(+)

Risks & Challenges

Hi, Angela here. I can't tell you how grateful and privileged I am to have been in the position to self-fund The DoubleWalker up to this point. Many of us reach a juncture where we need to believe in ourselves. And it is SCARY. But I am so happy that I took the risk. Why? Well, film sets are living, breathing, joy-monsters. Ooh I just thought of that...ooh that's good, I like that. Anyway! Film sets are fiercely collaborative. They're fast-paced think-tanks. You're one big machine of vision and love and adaptability. That's the environment (well that's what you hope for) and it's incredible. But, before you arrive to set, that's the biggest unknown. Is that unique environment going to percolate? Is everyone going to come together and get the shots, day in and day out, get the puppy in the can, and do it all while having fun and feeling inspired? Thank goodness for us, that's where we landed. The biggest risk has already passed. We did it! The experience of working with this crew and cast was more than I could have ever dreamed of. No matter what, we have the movie in hand, ready to be polished up, stamped on the tookus, and sent off to audiences. As contributors there are no more risks for you at this point. The most challenging part of any film is already over. Yay! Every dollar you contribute will not have an abstract, but a very real and direct impact on the completion of this film. There is only dollars and cents blocking our sights on the finish line. Please help launch this worthwhile story and team out into the world! WE THANK YOU!

Other Ways You Can Help

If you're not able to make a monetary contribution, the biggest way you can help is by GETTING THE WORD OUT!!! SINCERELY...YOU HAVE OUR DEEPEST GRATITUDE. WE'LL SEE YOU DOWN THE ROAD AT THE FINISH LINE aka A THEATRE NEAR YOU!!!
