Short Summary
Hi folks! We are Kacie and Karen
Devaney, a mother daughter team who wrote an original full length play entitled
The Great Forgotten that was accepted into The New York City Fringe Festival
2015. The Great Forgotten goes up at the highly respected, Robert Moss Theater in Manhattan, August, 22nd, 27th, 28th, 29th, and 30th. Performance times and more details can be found directly on The Fringe website in the coming weeks here, http://www.fringenyc.org/.
Karen Devaney is a writer, actor, teacher, and was once a nurse who lives
in Sacramento, California. Kacie Devaney is a playwright, actor, dancer,
choreographer, singer/song writer, and Pilates instructor currently living in New
York City.
The Great Forgotten is set during
WWI and the Roaring Twenties. Two sisters, Elizabeth and Celia, work as
American nurses in France during the Great War. When they return the roaring
twenties is in full swing. While both sisters eventually become flappers,
performing together at a local speakeasy in Manhattan, one struggles to forget
the war and everyone she lost, while the other finds solace in her new life
and seeks fame and fortune as a dancer.
We are beyond excited to have been
accepted into the NYC Fringe Festival! The Great Forgotten was one of 200
plays chosen out of over 1,000 submissions! The New York Fringe Festival gets
over 80,000 spectators each year many of whom are industry professionals! As
women playwrights and actors, we strove to write a piece with strong female
characters. We also wanted to tell the story of the nurses, the unsung
heroes, who served during The Great War. This play is not only a
historical account of what nurses endured during WWI, but a tribute to all
women whose contributions have been chronically overlooked. The Great
Forgotten sheds light on women who have had the courage to pursue their
passions despite the struggles of sexism and oppression.
What we need now is your help in
bringing The Great Forgotten to life! What does this mean? Well, as struggling
artist, it means helping us raise funds by donating or spreading the word about
our campaign on all of your social media sites. This is a full scale production
and we need as much help as we can get. We will need funding for; Rehearsal
space, a stage manager and crew, a lighting crew, directors, actors we can pay,
props, costumes, sound engineer, video engineer, insurance and more.
We realize that putting up a play is
challenging and that creating the authenticity we hope for on stage will be
tough. On the other hand, we are hard workers and dedicated to getting The Great
Forgotten out there. This is not just art for art’s sake, this is a story that
needs to be told and must be heard! Women especially, let's band together and
give this female dominated play the chance it deserves!
Thank you all so much for reading
and considering The Great Forgotten. Remember too, every bit counts. If you
can't donate, please spread the word on your social media sites by liking our
page and talking us up here-- https://www.facebook.com/Thegreatforgotten.
THANK YOU
ALL!!!!
Contributors fund ideas they can be passionate about and to people they trust. Here are some things to do in this section:
- Introduce yourself and your background.
- Briefly describe your campaign and why it's important to you.
- Express the magnitude of what contributors will help you achieve.
Remember, keep it concise, yet personal. Ask yourself: if someone stopped reading here would they be ready to make a contribution?
And that's all there is to it.
