The Humble School Community Fundraiser

"Thomas Lewis, or Chief Master Sabu as he’s known to his students, is being forced to relocate or shut down due to rising rent. For the time being however, on any given day if you walk into the aptly-named Humble Dojo on Fulton Street in Brooklyn, you will find Master Sabu teaching people in his community self-love and self-discipline.

Master Sabu teaches many students for free, or for whatever they can afford, but he is most dedicated to children. Some days, he stays late at the Dojo teaching a free class so that single mothers can pick their children up after working late, and so that the children aren’t home alone. No one pays him extra, or even necessarily realizes that he’s stayed late just for this reason. This is just who Master Sabu is. Moreoever, his penchant for giving extends far beyond his students, many of whom have gone on to become doctors, lawyers, or open their own Dojos. Master Sabu also volunteers for the elderly, teaching at nursing homes. He also feeds poor and homeless people on Thanksgiving every year - no matter what his financial circumstances may be. He is a man of his community, and he reminds us of what community really means. To this end, New York 1 recently named Master Sabu New Yorker of the Week! The link to the two-minute heart-felt video is below.

To try and put it simply, Master Sabu is the embodiment of love, a constant champion of giving, and an enduring example of a steadfast commitment to the well-being of others. With your help we can save the Humble Dojo and show Master Sabu that his lifetime of service hasn't gone unnoticed."

Master Sabu has been involved with Martial Arts for over 45 years, and he brings his skills and passion to his neighborhood by teaching people of all ages. However, because of increased rents in the building he is currently in, he cannot afford to maintain the current space. We hope to raise funds to help Master Sabu find a new space for his Martial Arts classes and community-oriented events, so that this Brooklyn neighborhood will not have to lose such a valuable member.

With your help--through a donation or spreading the word through social media--we can help Master Sabu to get the funds that he needs to relocate to a new location, while still remaining in the neighborhood, and support his school and community service.
