Peace and Love everyone. My name is Isis Brantley and I’m a Dallas native. For 25 years I’ve been a pillar of strength and fortitude in my community. My passion is healing through the hair.  I’m known as the Matriarch and pioneer of Natural Hair care and African Braiding in the State of Texas.  I have been instrumental in changing unfair laws related to African Braiding rights and Economic liberty.  I’m the Owner and Founder of The Institute of Ancestral Braiding the only Natural Hair/ African Braiding School in Texas. Our purpose is to train the next generation of African Braiders.

Since 1980, The Institute of Ancestral Braiding has positioned itself as a leader in natural hair care and adornment advice, services, and products. This is a cultural foundation created in the interest of women, men and children, across the globe who are suffering with damaged hair, scalps, and low self esteem because of these conditions.

Unlike our competitors we take a completely natural and holistic approach to healing one's head. We do not use over processed chemicals in any of our services and we take the time and care to make sure that all of the services we provide are genuinely advantageous for the customer, not solely for our profit.

Uniqueness/Distinction

During the mid-90's Isis ran afoul of the Texas Cosmetology Commission, which began citing her repeatedly for practicing without a license.   Consequently, because of Isis’ relentless and unyielding stance, she became the first and only natural hair care provider to be ‘grandfathered’ by the state of Texas.

The story of her struggle appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Dallas Morning News, D Magazine, and many other publications across the nation.

Since that time, and in many ways because of the state’s threat, Isis diversified her business, moving it into the realms of a natural hair care product manufacturer and distributor.

Paraphrasing an ancient quote:

Give a hungry person a fish and they will have food sufficient for a day, but if you teach/train a person how to fish they can feed themselves for a lifetime.

Unfortunately, in these dire economic times, the ability of schools such as ours to find the funding for the training of potential students is a high order.  That is why we are asking for your help in sponsoring the cost of training at The Institute of Ancestral Braiding so that they can become productive and self sufficient, and have the opportunity for gaining lifelong employment skills.

In the state of Texas a natural hair care technician is required by law to be licensed.  A student must complete 35 hours of training in order to receive this license.  Our school offers this course and the necessary training for an individual to become an active member of the natural hair care and beauty industry as a service provider or business owner.  We can provide this training towards licensing.

What will this money be going towards?

The Leasing and furnishing a facility to house The Institute for Ancestral Braiding. Once completed then have a budget to market the Institute.

We need a modest $125,000 to Lease and furnish a facility to house the Institute. How that breaks down is.

1.) $50,000 to lease a building to house the Institute.

2.) $30,000 for Stylist chairs, Students desks, washbowl stations, Office equipment.

3.) $20,000 for educational supplies, materials, mannequin heads and audio/visual equipment

4.) $25,000 for marketing

The Impact

The Isis Project realizes that, from a business standpoint, no resource is as important as the human resource.  We believe that the health of the hair is directly connected to the health of the body. As a contributor you can help restore the awareness within people of African descent and people in general  of the cultural art form of properly caring for kinky hair, loving oneself, and embracing an African beauty standard. The knowledge shared is valuable to the world.   Once one decides to change the negative thinking patterns about self image they will start to understand the importance of properly taking care of and nourishing their natural kinky hair instead of placing chemicals in it and damaging it in order to obtain a commercial standard of beauty.

Other Ways You can Help

In the event that we are not able to raise all the money we need to complete our mission, We will use what funds raised to fund the Lewis and Wood Scholarship fund which provides tuition assistance to those that qualify.

  • In an effort to help many individual who cannot afford the cost of training, but want to excel as productive members of the natural hair/beauty industry-- and, perhaps most importantly, society at large-- we are reaching out to business leaders locally and nationally in hopes that they will join us in our Isis Project Sponsorship ProgramNaturally Isis

Natural Hair Stylist Isis Brantley
Is On FIRE
Last weekend, I attended my very first Natural Hair event, at the Nzuri Natural Hair Health and Beauty Festival , December 8, 2012, in Houston, TX.  I noticed a booth with a name above that read, Isis Brantley, which sparked an interest to stop and look. Below was a lady twisting a woman’s hair,  promoting a holistic line of natural hair products. I was very intrigued so I purchased, Lemongrass Shampoo and Tea Tree Skin & Scalp cream. I realized was the lady I was introduce to is known nationwide as Naturally Isis, the guru of Natural Hair Care., Isis Brantley.

To Me

Sep 18

Good day Naturallyisis ...Omg! I just rushed to youtube after my daughter showed me her hair in globs in the shower. She just happened to tell me today...however I guess it started just 2 or 3 days after she decided to get a wave noveau. I just tried to contact the stylist and salon she went to and I received a voicemail. I left a message just stating my number and for a call back. My daughter doesn't want me going there upset but I know for my daughter to even tell me and show me the hair...there is(was) a problem but it's so much hair! I'm afraid it's all going to be out within a matter of days or weeks if it's coming out in clumps like this. Omg! She was so happy...her hair had grown in it's natural state so long that she was so happy to get perm(wave noveau) to celebrate the length. Please help me/my daughter. I know this traumatic for her and for me. She tries to be tough but I know this is seriously effected her .

I put the glob of hair in a ziplock bag and will be adding any more hair that falls out in the meantime. Is there a lawsuit against loreal or carson soft sheen? Please help? I'm still awaiting a call from the stylist to find out if she used the brand products mentioned in your video with the other woman who suffered from this unforturnate situation.

I advised my daughter to email you and she just said 'Mom there's nothing anyone can do' and stop telling everyone. I yelled back to the room to her minutes ago----I'm not telling everyone ..I'm looking for answers ...it's your hair and this lady from what I see in the video is someone who knows what's going on in the industry of Black hair products/damage etc.,

Mzchastang@yahoo.com is her email but I will again try to get her to email you and watch the video..she's just baracaded herself in her room now and I think I feel her pain worse than she. Probably nothing we(she) can do as far as the hair stylist who applied the perm? Please contact me please at  your soonest. Much regards peace respect love & blessings
